Rain doesn’t stop the Rangers 🌧️
The Kombumerri Rangers are out on Country continuing habitat restoration works, no matter the weather. Today’s task involved documenting threatened species while battling through the rain to restore and protect important habitat for future generations. 🌱
Strong commitment, hard work, and dedication to caring for Country — rain, hail or shine.

Wednesday our Rangers were proud to work alongside Forest Rehabilitation Ecology’s Victoria Bakker at Currumbin, taking on a dense wall of w**ds to help restore Country.
Through hard work and teamwork, the area is already being transformed, uncovering a plethora of vulnerable native trees that had been fighting for light and space.
Every w**d removed is another step toward healing the landscape and giving these precious species the chance to thrive again. Great work by everyone involved. 🌿💪

Today, Ngarang-Wal and the Kombumerri Rangers had the honour of attending the Te Manawa Ora ANZAC Service in Norwell.
This was more than a moment of remembrance—it was a powerful expression of culture, connection, and unity. Standing alongside our Māori cousins, we walked together in respect, strengthening the ties that bind our communities across land and sea.
Through shared stories, traditions, and spirit, we honoured those who have served, carrying forward the legacy of resilience and cultural strength.
We are grateful to stand, walk, and remember together.
Lest we forget.

🐸 Listening for Frogs on Kombumerri Country 🌿🎧
Researchers recently partnered with the Kombumerri Rangers to trial passive bioacoustic monitoring at the Guanaba Indigenous Protected Area (GIPA) — a 200 acre Kombumerri-managed site in the Gold Coast hinterland. 🌱
The project aimed to improve monitoring for the threatened Mixophyes fleayi (Fleay’s Barred Frog), a species that has declined due to chytrid fungus, habitat disturbance and other environmental pressures.
While Fleay’s Barred Frog was not detected during this monitoring period, the acoustic recorders captured the call of Litoria chloris (Red-eyed Tree Frog) — a species not previously recorded in the area. 🐸
This work helps build a stronger understanding of frog activity on Kombumerri Country while strengthening collaborative conservation between Rangers and researchers.

🌿 Community Walk at Federation Walk 🌿
Our friends at Gecko Environment Council are hosting a walk at Federation Walk Coastal Reserve on The Spit.
For the past two years, Kombumerri Rangers have been working alongside Ecosure on restoration efforts in this important coastal habitat 🌱
The Rangers also run turtle walks during the breeding season, helping monitor and protect nesting turtles along this coastline 🐢
Great to see the community getting out to learn more about this special place and the work being done to care for Country.

The Kombumerri Rangers were recently invited by Veterinary Ecology to observe drone operations and koala monitoring and veterinary health assessment activities in a conservation area on the northern Gold Coast.
This important program is focused on monitoring koala health, using innovative technology such as thermal drones to locate koalas safely before veterinary teams carefully conduct health assessments. These efforts play a critical role in understanding koala movement, behaviour, and the impacts of disease affecting koalas across the region.
The initiative helps support ongoing research and conservation actions aimed at strengthening local koala populations and protecting these iconic Australian animals for future generations.
Kombumerri Rangers are grateful for the opportunity to observe and learn from the dedicated team at Endeavour Veterinary Ecology, and to be part of conversations that contribute to the protection and preservation of our native wildlife. Together, through collaboration, knowledge sharing, and on-ground conservation work, we can help ensure koalas continue to thrive in our landscapes. 🌱🐨
