The recent field trip to Mount Shadwell quarry and Mooralla gem fields was a great success. We stayed at Macs hotel in Mortlake Victoria and after a 7 hour drive to get there a shower, meal and a b**r were most welcome. We enjoyed great weather and fossicked with some lovely people from a number of gem clubs including Warrnabool and Mildura. The quarry fossicking was brilliant and the volunteers who supervised us (Jason and partner) were great, big kudos for them and the quarry personel and the council in presenting such a brilliant site. Big thanks to Warrnabool Gem Club President Alan Alltman and Chris Woods who hosted us in his house and showed us his specimens, paintings and musical instruments, such a talented man. We were fortunate with the weather and staying in a great hotel Macs, great hosts and hospitality brilliant. The samples of Peridot/Olivine we brought home exceeded our expectations. Big shout to those club members who travelled, especially Denise S we salute you!

Hi All - Just got back from Mount Shadwell Victorian field trip on Monday after a weekend of great fossiking with some brilliant people. Enclosed photos of some of the samples that we brought back and will post a more complete update in next couple of days. Will also bring samples down to RGMC club this Saturday for members to have a squizz after we conduct the bi monthly members meeting see you there!

Neil and Pat Smith hosted us one afternoon a couple of years ago in their lovely home during our field trips and we had a great time. They have a wealth of knowledge and experience with Jade and are well worth looking up. A great article in the local Eyre Pensinsula Advocate.

The Cowell Jade – an alluring yet tough gemstone – is having a resurgence in its home town.

Hi everyone: Mildura & District Gem & Mineral Club Incorporated have their 32nd Gem & Jewellery Expo this weekend Sep 5-6. I encourage all RGMC members👍 to attend if possible to support our sister club. Its a great day out and there is always a great array of gems , minerals, fossils and other goods to buy/admire. See you there!😁
