Myth 1 - Rotary is for men only

Myth 2 - Rotary is for old people

Myth 3 - You have to attend every week

Myth 4 - Rotary is only for Doctors, Lawyers and CEOs

Myth 5 - Membership is not by invitation

Myth 6 - Rotary is a religious organisation or a secret society

Myth 7 - All Rotarians do is cook barbecues

Myth 8 - You’ve seen one Rotary club, you’ve seen them all

Myth 9 - You cannot discuss your business or profession in Rotary

Myth 10 - Rotary is an “old fashioned” organisation, with boring and ritualistic meetings

Our club was a proud supporter of an NFP House initiative to work with local Toolooa High School students, in a program called Canva for Change. The students were given the job of increasing their digital marketing skills for three local not for profit groups - ARTmatters at Creative Gladstone Region Inc. , the Maritime Museum and our club, by designing a post using Canva, highlighting the organisation’s activities. They then posted these on to the club’s pages to measure the engagement and reach of their work. Our post highlighted our Bikes to Wheelchairs program and it performed higher than average for our page, reaching audiences as far as the USA and Zimbabwe.

Club members, Gloria Holmes & PR person Shane McLeod, attended their wrap up lesson and certificate presentation to celebrate the student’s great work and results. Thank you to Alliyah for her great work on our post design and implementation. This was a great program to sponsor and we thank Doug and the NFP House crew for including us in it.

Big thanks to Emma and Barry from Gladstone Chaplaincy NightWatch program, for giving our club an insightful look at the service the group provides our community. The NightWatch Chaplains, a volunteer street outreach program run by the charity ChaplainWatch. Every Friday and Saturday night, the crew patrols the Gladstone entertainment precincts to provide a safety net, first aid, and assistance for anyone in need or crisis. They do a great job keeping our community safe and cared for, in what can be some quite challenging situations, with a limited budget.
If you’d like to know more about what they do, volunteering opportunities or make a donation, you can see all their details here: https://www.chaplainwatch.org.au

A sincere thank you to Sandra and Reg Pugh for delivering such an insightful and meaningful presentation on Rare Ovarian Cancer.

We’re proud to support the Great Queensland Rail Trail Adventure – Ride for Research 2026. This July, an inspiring group of riders will cycle over 600 kilometres from Gladstone to Brisbane across five days, following three of Queensland’s historic rail trails.

This incredible journey is about more than the distance—it’s about raising vital funds and awareness for Rare Ovarian Cancer Research, helping drive life-changing breakthroughs and working towards a cure for women and girls impacted by this disease.

If you’d like to donate and help with the much needed research for this important cause, you can do it right here: https://www.rocinc.org.au

Look at how our local community turned bikes into wheelchairs! 🚲♿

Sunrise Rotary are building basic, robust wheelchairs with the help of Toolooa State High School art students and Gladstone South State School.

These robust wheelchairs are sent to developing countries, given freely to those who need them. Simple wheelchairs like this will completely change the life of a disabled person and their family, as it allows both the disabled person and their carer to be more independent and productive.

Get involved and join the program! Comment “sign me up” for more information on how to get involved!
