Without variety we get bored - it is amazing the different projects the Shed has completed or currently underway, there is no doubt that members embrace an idea and turn it into reality.
For example there are the Mini Art Galleries and in progress are a Noah's Ark, a Food Stall for the Salvation Army and recycling some leadlight panels into Cupboards for a client. It is certainly a good way of keeping active!

Going down to the wire - the shedders up at Bilo have had their male st*****rs for some time, but Gladstone has now got a scrappy team who have a new activity to bare it all for the Shed to make some extra revenue by selling the salvaged copper.
It is amazing how much old cable is around that can be recycled, so we have purchased the wire stripping machine, it is something for members to do while still having those important conversations and the shed has a new revenue source to help pay the overheads.

We are over the moon with the result - a lovely community minded lady came to the shed last year with her jewel art that didn't have a future home, our shedders have started framing it and 2 of the items were donated to the Cancer Council Gladstone Branch for their Biggest Morning Tea last week. Everyone was happy with the outcome.
We have still got the big piece to frame and there are others yet to be done, thank you all for a great example of community volunteering and sorry we cannot find the name of the lady that started it all.

Line Them Up - you never know what crafty items are going to appear in the shed, our fishing rod fixer upper member has decided to make this rotating rod holder out of scrap timber - nice work, John.
It will be handy to display the rods and reels restored in the shed, which then become a fund raiser when sold at a bargain price to visitors throughout the year, but we are also planning a Garage Sale & Open Day during Men's Shed Week on Saturday 12th September.

Terrific Timber Tables - the Shed had some large slabs of timber that our talented members managed to turn into a couple of nice tables that have a dual purpose of being very useful at smoko and also demonstrating what can be made in the workshop.
Thanks to Reg and all members who got them finished by Christmas, don't worry about the line down the middle as it was necessary to get the bow out of the timber. There is even a Gladstone connection with the iconic kookaburra shells preserved in resin in a previous knot in the timber.

Eggslecent Day - to help support McCoskers Easter Street Parade we got all our eggs in one basket (the cut-out that is) and added a few of the items recently made in the Shed to join in the fun of Good Friday with the Gladstone community.
Thanks to McCoskers and GRC Event Crews for your hard work on the day and may next year's parade be even bigger and better again.

A story behind every photo - thanks to our long-standing committee member, Mark, for sending in these photos from the biannual National Shed Gathering that was held in Brisbane in March where some note-worthy visitors were in attendance.
Her Excellency, the Honourable, Dr Jeanette Young, AC, PSM, Governor of Queensland and her husband, Professor Graeme Nimmo, RFD, are joint Patrons of the Queensland Men's Shed Association. As well as giving a special address at the Gathering, Dr Young will try to visit sheds whenever they travel throughout the state on official duties.
John Paul Young is the host of the regular Australian Men's Shed Association podcast, The Shed Wireless, which always has segments on health, tools and contributions by various guests. During the Shedder’s Dinner, JPY entertained attendees with a walk down memory lane.
This year's Gathering was another great national event about connection, learning and mateship and the Gladstone attendees gained many ideas to make our Shed even better in the future.

Somethin' Fishy at the Shed - members were very interested in the presentation by OzFish on building better habitats for fish in the Gladstone region.
It is amazing how much a clump of oysters can clean up the seawater and how a cage full of oyster shells will lead to an increase in fish stocks.
OzFish with the support of BCF have plans to place these cages in the marina, Auckland Creek and elsewhere in the region. Hopefully Gladstone and other Sheds will make the cages and others will volunteer to get the cages into position and monitor their ongoing effectiveness.

It's a honour (board) - after 20 years the Honour Board at St Francis School, Tannum Sands, is full. An easy but fulfilling challenge for the skilled members at the Gladstone Men's Shed to replicate what they already had and be ready for use for another couple of decades.
To purchase the timber and varnishes for these projects is made possible by a Shell QGC grant previously provided to assist the schools in the Gladstone region.

Looking through the glass - just some of the beautiful colours of glass the Gladstone Men's Shed now has for members who want to try leadlighting as an activity.
The glass together with lead, materials & tools was purchased with the assistance of Cr Holzheimer and the Gladstone Regional Council's Discretionary Grant Funding to enable men to work on their own leadlighting projects while enjoying companionship of others working on a wide range of other activities in the shed.
New members are always welcome and using the shed's resources is a great saving instead of setting-up at home.
