NFP House completed its first Health Check of 2026 this week, and it felt so good to be back supporting our local community organisations in this way.

We were incredibly impressed by the determination, passion and commitment of the volunteers from Friends of the Theatre, who are working hard to make both their community and their own lives better through volunteering and connection.

This project is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.

NFP House is currently experiencing IT issues that are affecting our email services. At this time, we are unable to send or receive emails to/from outside our organisation.

These issues are also impacting access to our website and Volunteer Portal.

We are aware of the problem and working to have these services restored ASAP but have been advised that it may take up to a couple of days.

It’s National Volunteer Week, and we’re saying a huge thank you to the amazing volunteers who support the Aquaculture Gladstone interpretive display.

Our volunteers generously give their time each week, welcoming visitors and sharing their passion and knowledge about our hatchery and fish species.

Long-term volunteer Kerry shared why he loves volunteering:

"I've always been interested in marine life and so I thought I would come and learn more about how the hatchery works, the fish species we have - there's so many interesting facts to learn. My favourite fish is the Mangrove Jack. I like how they change colour depending on their mood and how curious they are. They come up to the glass to look at you. If you were thinking of volunteering.. I say do it! It's so interesting and you learn something new every day and meet people."

To our volunteers, we say thank you this week and every week.

We would like to extend a special thank you to our former Director, Jennifer McGuire, for her dedicated service on the NFP House Board.

While Jen has stepped down from her Director role, we are incredibly grateful that she continues to support NFP House in an operational volunteer capacity. Her ongoing commitment and advocacy for the not for profit sector continue to make a valued difference to our organisation and many other community organisations across the region.

Earlier this week, we had a lovely morning tea & catch up with our volunteer Noeline and were able to present her with a Certificate of Appreciation to recognise the incredible volunteer work she does at NFP House and in the community.

This could be a great example of for other community organisations looking for simple but meaningful ways to acknowledge their volunteers during National Volunteer Week, or at any time throughout the year. 🌻

Often, it's the smallest gestures that mean the most and make volunteers feel truly valued.
