Great industrial capability deserves to be recognised.

Nominations are now open for the 2026 GEA Industry Awards, presented by Aestec Services, recognising the people and businesses making an outstanding contribution to industry across Central Queensland.

Behind the region's major industrial operations, maintenance programs, projects and emerging industries are thousands of people and businesses delivering complex work every day.

The Awards recognise achievement across that industrial economy. From established operators and contractors to manufacturers, engineering businesses, technology providers, supply chain companies and the people driving better ways of working.

We want industry to help us identify those achievements.

If you know a person, team or business whose work deserves recognition, nominate them for the 2026 GEA Industry Awards.

The GEA Industry Awards Gala Dinner, presented by Aestec Services, returns on 21 October.

For one night, we bring together the people behind one of Australia's most significant industrial regions.

Major operators. Contractors. Engineering and manufacturing businesses. Project proponents. Government. Technology providers. Supply chain leaders.

The 2026 GEA Industry Awards Gala Dinner will recognise outstanding achievement across Central Queensland's industrial economy while bringing together people from across the region and beyond who have a stake in its future.

For organisations based in Central Queensland, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne or Canberra, it is an opportunity to connect with the people operating, maintaining, investing in and delivering industry in this region.

The 2026 Industry Award winners will be announced on the night.

FROM ANNOUNCEMENT TO EX*****ON.

What does the next phase of industry in Central Queensland actually look like?

On 21–22 October 2026, industry leaders, operators, project proponents, contractors, government, investors and supply chain businesses will come together in Gladstone for the GEA Major Industry Conference, presented by Aestec Services.

Across two days, the conversation will move beyond project announcements to the realities shaping industrial delivery and competitiveness. From the future of existing operations and maintenance to major projects, energy, infrastructure, workforce, technology, procurement and supply chain capability.

These are not issues confined to Gladstone.

Decisions being made in Central Queensland, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra will all influence what gets built, what continues to operate, where investment flows and how Australian industry competes.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include maintaining a strong and visible presence across GEA’s membership and the broader regional economy, building trusted stakeholder relationships, and contributing practically across the organisation.

You will be able to bring:
∎ Significant experience in industry, major projects, industrial supply chains, business development or a related commercial environment.
∎ Strong relationship-building capability across SMEs, major organisations and government.
∎ Strong coordination, facilitation and follow-through capability.
∎ A willingness to spend substantial time engaging directly with businesses, industry and stakeholders across the region.

Fantastic news from Powerlink, which has awarded a major construction contract to Consolidated Power Projects as part of their Calvale to Calliope River Reinforcement Project.

Approximately 150 workers are forecast to be employed to deliver this body of work, of which 30% are projected to come from Central Queensland communities, providing job opportunities to local workers.

Since joining GEA as CEO in May, Patrick Hastings has been busy getting out and about and meeting with as many of our members as possible.

Recently, Patrick caught up with Glynn and Terri-Anne Sheppard from BKR Group Aust Pty Ltd to learn more about their trade waste, recycling and upcycling activities. ♻

And did you know that those giant drums you can see in the photos are actually available for purchase? We’re told they’re proving popular with people looking for a great upcycling project - including being turned into fire pits for rural properties! 🔥

It’s always great to see the innovative ways our members are finding new life for materials that might otherwise go to waste.

ACCIONA Energía has announced $90,000 in grant funding to two Gladstone organisations to help house and support vulnerable Central Queenslanders.

Community-based housing alliance, The Shelter Collective, is the inaugural recipient of a $50,000 grant funded by ACCIONA Energía’s Aldoga Solar Farm, delivered in partnership with CQUniversity, funding the investigation and design of renewable energy solutions for its Gladstone housing project, which is transforming the former Hibiscus Gardens aged care facility into housing for older women at risk of homelessness.

Roseberry QLD Dignity Hub was awarded $40,000 to provide support to vulnerable Central Queenslanders as part of the Aldoga Solar Farm Legacy Investment Program. The funding will strengthen the Dignity Hub’s ability to provide essential support to individuals and families experiencing homelessness, housing stress or hardship in Gladstone.

Grant funding initiatives such as these are vital to the local community, providing support to community-based organisations and businesses so that essential services such as these continue to help those who need it most.

It is with great sadness that the staff at GEA extend our deepest condolences on the passing of Bobby Pailthorpe.

Bobby was one of those wonderful people who was always willing to lend a hand. A much-loved volunteer to many organisations, including GEA, he was always there when we needed him — whether it was collecting our mail, putting up banners, transporting merchandise, helping at events, or simply stepping in wherever a helping hand was needed.

Nothing was ever too much trouble for Bobby. His generosity, kindness and selfless willingness to help will be remembered and greatly missed by all of us at GEA.

Thank you, Bobby, for all the time, effort and care you so generously gave to GEA and so many others in our community.

Our heartfelt condolences go to Bobby’s family, friends, his 4CC family and all those who loved him.

Rest peacefully, Bobby. You will be sadly missed. ❤️
