This year’s Federal Budget has delivered a mixed outcome for the business community – with some welcome support measures alongside growing concerns for the future of business investment and confidence.

There were several positive announcements for small businesses, including:
βœ… Making the $20,000 instant asset write-off permanent
βœ… Expanding R&D incentives
βœ… Introducing tax loss carry-back measures to help with cash flow and investment
βœ… Continued investment in essential infrastructure, including the Bruce Highway
βœ… Ongoing disaster recovery support for businesses and communities

These are all measures that business groups across Queensland have consistently advocated for.

However, broader concerns remain around proposed changes to capital gains and trust settings, which many in the business community believe could discourage investment, reduce productivity, and place further pressure on businesses already navigating a challenging economic environment.

For many small business owners, their business represents years of hard work, risk, and long-term financial security – making these conversations critically important for the future of Australian business.

Business Chamber Queensland CEO Heidi Cooper recently shared her thoughts on what this Budget means for businesses across Queensland and beyond.

We encourage our local business community to stay informed, engage in the conversation, and have their say through the Federal Budget 2026 Snap Poll.
