Camp Akuna Pikes Crossing

Camp Akuna Pikes Crossing Camp Akuna is picturesque and uniquely situated on the banks of the Boyne River. In around 1965, Mr.

Pike gifted 10 acres of property on the riverbanks of the Boyne River to the community of Gladstone. The Gladstone and District Recreational Boys and Girls Club Inc. was established to hold and utilise the land to serve Gladstone’s youth. Opened in 1965 by Councillor Neil Ballantine, the property is still informally known as Camp Akuna. A hall was constructed (possibly in two stages) and a kitchen

and toilet block was added some time later to cater for approximately 65 people. Trustees of The Gladstone and District Recreational Boys and Girls Club have included National Fitness Camps, the three local Apex Groups, and Curtis Coast Apex 40’s (Apex Life Members). In January 2013, a group of locals reformed the board of trustees and changed the name of the not-for-profit corporation to Camp Akuna Pikes Crossing. We have been working tirelessly to have this wonderful facility available to engage local and regional people. Many locals have connection with the picturesque and uniquely situated site on the Boyne River. It offers them a sense of place; and, engenders community connectivity and cohesion in a safe and recreational environment.

Camp Akuna has made the difficult decision to no longer permit dogs at our campground.
Sadly the actions of many have spoilt it for the few that do the right thing by abiding by our rules to keep their dogs restrained at all times and cleaning up after them. This is not our caretakers role nor should they have to be repeatedly telling campers to control their dogs only to be ignored.
We have had too many near misses by dogs being aggressive towards other patrons and we cannot accept this risk nor should we have to.

We recently made a donation to the 2nd Gladstone girls brigade for their yellow umbrella project.
The girls spent a term gathering donations from the community both physical and monetary to donate to the CCRDFV team and the Gladstone hospital for the babies placed into care. Well done girls.

Our pristine campground being disrespected by a few who clearly don’t care.
Thankfully these folk did not set fire to the neighbours property😖
PS we do have flushing toilets so no need to p*e on the ground and leave tissues everywhere

BIG new sign at the turn off to our campground! Can’t miss us now😁
