Come and visit us at the Gisborne Fire Station on Sunday 8 November, from 10am–2pm! ❤️💛

With summer and the fire season just around the corner, it’s a great opportunity to come down, meet our volunteers and get some important fire safety and preparedness information.

There’ll be plenty happening on the day, including:

🔥 Gisborne CFA will be at the Gisborne Olde Time Market! 🔥

Come and say hello on Sunday 1 November as we celebrate the market’s 50th birthday! 🎉

We’ll have a stall set up as part of CFA’s Get Fire Ready campaign, chatting with locals about getting prepared for the upcoming fire season and making sure you have a plan for your property and family.

Whether you’re not sure where to start or just want to check you’re ready, come over for a chat. We’re always happy to help!

🚒 A great day of training with our neighbouring brigades!

A valuable day for everyone involved, with plenty of learning for our newer members and a great refresher for our more experienced firefighters. It’s always good to train together, share knowledge and learn from each other as we head towards fire season.

A big thanks to Riddells Creek Fire Brigade for hosting us, and to their Catering Group for a delicious lunch! 👏

🚒 A heads up for our community! 🚒

This Sunday, some of our Gisborne CFA members will be joining our neighbouring brigades at Riddells Creek for a group training exercise.

You may notice a few extra fire trucks and firefighters around the area as we work together, practise our skills and get ready for the upcoming fire season.

There’s no need for concern if you see us out and about. It’s all part of keeping our skills sharp and our community safe! ❤️

Today, CFA volunteers from across Victoria are heading to Parliament House in Melbourne to make their voices heard.

Volunteers give their time, skills and often put themselves in harm’s way to protect their communities. Today is about standing together and calling for fair funding, safe equipment and proper support for Victoria’s volunteer firefighters.

If you can, come along and show your support for Victoria’s CFA volunteers.

⏰🌞 Daylight saving is here, Gisborne!

A little reminder that daylight saving begins this Sunday, 4 October. At 2am, clocks spring forward to 3am, giving us longer, lighter evenings.

It's also a great time to check your smoke alarms! 🔥 Make sure they're working, test them and replace batteries if needed.

A simple check today could make all the difference when it matters most.

🔥Get Fire Ready is back! 🔥

After the success of last year's events, Get Fire Ready returns this October with CFA brigades across Victoria encouraging their communities to Get Fire Ready.

📍Visit your local brigade to learn about the fire risks in your area, how to prepare your property, and where to get emergency information and warnings when it matters most.

🔥 The Fire Danger Rating is back

Today, for the first time in a while, the Fire Danger Rating has moved to Moderate.

Here’s a reminder of what each rating means:

🟢 MODERATE
Plan and prepare. Most fires can be controlled, but fires can still become dangerous.

🟡 HIGH
Be ready to act. Fires can spread quickly and may be difficult to control.

🟠 EXTREME
Be prepared to act immediately. Fires will spread quickly and be difficult to control.

🔴 CATASTROPHIC
For your survival, leave bushfire risk areas early. If a fire starts and takes hold, lives and homes will be at extreme risk.

As we head towards the warmer months, now is a great time to make sure you’re prepared and have your bushfire plan in place.

We’re in the Central Fire District, so make sure you’re checking the rating for our area and staying up to date as conditions change.

💙 National Police Remembrance Day | 29 September

Today we pause to remember and honour the police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty while serving and protecting their communities.

It is a day to remember their service, their sacrifice, and the families, friends and colleagues who continue to carry their memory.

Our thoughts are with our friends at Victoria Police today, and with all those who have been affected by the loss of a police officer.

We remember. We honour. We will never forget.

🔥 CAMPING THIS LONG WEEKEND? DON’T LEAVE YOUR FIRE BURNING! 🔥

With the long weekend and school holidays coming up, we know plenty of you will be heading off camping and enjoying the outdoors.

This morning, Bullengarook CFA and Gisborne CFA were called to a campfire that had been left burning overnight on Bluegum Track in the Lerderderg.

If you have a campfire, make sure it is completely extinguished before you leave it or go to bed.

💧 Douse it with plenty of water
🪵 Stir the ashes and coals
💧 Add more water and stir again
✋ Make sure it is cold to touch before leaving

A campfire can look out but still contain enough heat to reignite and start a bushfire.

Have fun, stay safe and never leave your campfire unattended. 🔥

And a big thank you to the dirt bike riders who spotted today’s fire and did the right thing by calling it in. 👏
