Celebrating life and entrepreneurship in the bush
Our mission is to crisis-proof rural Australia by enabling small business and empowering founders. What we do:
- Support small business in rural Australia through capacity building.
- Foster the growth of female-led business.
- Diversify rural economies, supporting recovery from drought, flood & other crises.
- Foster greater connection between the

city and the bush.
- Celebrate and showcase rural talent, ingenuity and creativity.
- Tell a great yarn about life in the bush! Where we started:
In the midst of Australia’s worst drought on record, Buy From The Bush began as an Instagram campaign showcasing the beautiful things available to buy from rural communities facing drought. Small businesses were saved, jobs were created. city and country were united and hope was restored. We encouraged all bush businesses to start using the on their social posts and we started to curate a social media feed filled with some of our favourite things.

A little thank you.

This month’s The Australian Women’s Weekly is a rural issue guest-edited by the mother cradling her child in this pic.

Edwina Bartholomew sits at this table, having assembled a small (but mighty) group of rural women to a paddock near Dubbo, NSW and casually facilitates a conversation that weaves a thread. She invites us all to contribute, offering our thoughts on life in the bush.

It’s so our words can end up on the pages of a beloved national magazine. It’s so a few people reading the magazine (I picture them in a doctor’s surgery waiting for an appt they don’t really want but know they need) might get to know us women and the life we have chosen to live in rural Australia.

An artist, a designer, a PR whiz, a nutritionist, a restauranteur, a wine grower, a tea maker, a photographer, an e-commerce genius, a dairy farmer, native food producer and me.

The thing that is underestimated when the patient picks up this magazine and flicks from page to page is the value of each word to the individuals featured, the businesses they are building and the communities they represent.

If small business deals in a currency, its visibility. That’s especially true when you live in the bush.

Visibility leads to viability.

So thank you The Australian Women’s Weekly for carving out space for rural stories. For not just including them on the fringe but smack bang in the centre. On the cover, even. Thanks for asking the questions and celebrating the potential.

And thanks to the mother cradling her babe, for having the energy to bring us all along for the ride. For every woman at this table, there’s hundreds not pictured. At work in their shop, their packing shed, their kitchen table, their paddock. Deserving our attention. And our custom. I hope our words reflect your thoughts.

If you don’t want to wait for your next checkup, find this mag everywhere, from today.

"In the pursuit of high-performance parenting, we have stitched ourselves up," writes Graziher columnist Grace Brennan. "We are now watchdogs. Executive assistants. Cheer squads. Litigators."

Grace argues that it's time parents stepped back, ditch the WhatsApp focus groups and stop scrupulously tracking a child's progress.

"God forbid a child might be bored," she writes. "Or not know how to tumble turn. Or be a mediocre saxophonist. Or — dare I say it? — lose."

The most reasonably priced tablecloths just got ridiculously reasonable. It’s not like us to lead with price (we know you don’t for the bargains 😉) but this is notable.

Victoria from is giving you 50% off these BFTB faves now via the link in our bio. And yes you do need a weighted food cover. If you have never had one, it’s time to find out how handy they are.
