We have to really research deeply to find out a woman's life history. Women were merely listed as a "housewife" but were sooo much more. My Grandmother was a very courageous woman which has followed through in further generations. ❤️‍🩹

What woman in your family history deserves to have her story told?

This Family History Month, the Geraldton Family History Society has been sharing stories about the role women have played in our history and helping to write women back into our family stories.

So often, women appear only briefly in the records. A name on a certificate. A wife or mother listed in a family tree. Yet behind those few details were lives filled with work, resilience, family, community, hardship, humour and achievement.

Sometimes all it takes is sharing what we know for another piece of the story to emerge.

A photograph shown to a relative might suddenly gain a name.
A family story may spark a forgotten memory.
A newspaper clipping might reveal something no one knew.
A distant cousin may hold the photograph, letter or story that completes the picture.

Family history becomes richer when we share it.

We would love to hear about the women in your family history.

Who was she? What do you know about her life? What story has been passed down through your family? And has sharing her story ever led to another clue or discovery?

Tell us about her in the comments. 👇

Every woman has a story worth remembering.

📷 From Fermoy to East Ogilvie

Eileen Patricia Allen’s journey took her from Ireland to Western Australia, from nursing during the war years to raising a family on remote pastoral stations and helping establish a farm at East Ogilvie.

Shared by her daughter-in-law, Heather Allen, Eileen’s story reminds us that family history lives in everyday work, resilience, love and the traditions passed from one generation to the next.
