Civil Contractors Federation SA welcomes the Premier’s request for the South Australian Productivity Commission to undertake a Review of Red Tape in South Australia.

With a particular focus on reducing unnecessary regulatory burden on businesses in South Australia, the Productivity Commission has been asked to:

- Identify specific priority reform opportunities in state and local government regulation

- Include licensing and approvals, compliance obligations, and interactions with regulators and agencies in the scope of the inquiry

- Focus on practical and specific regulatory reforms that could be implemented in South Australia at either the state or local government level

- Prioritise the recommended reforms by their potential impact

As the peak industry body representing South Australia’s civil construction sector, the Productivity Commission has confirmed that CCF SA will be included in its consultation to assist in developing its recommendations to State Government.

This is a proud moment for CCF SA member Bardavcol Pty Ltd and a great example of civil infrastructure in action! 🚧💧

For only the second time since Bardavcol completed the Kangaroo Creek Dam upgrade for SA Water in 2019, the dam's 50-metre-wide spillway is releasing water after the reservoir reached 100% capacity following heavy rainfall in August.

With recent inflows adding eight billion litres of water the reservoir, the $93.4 million upgrade is supporting the release of water downstream into the River Torrens where some of it is then diverted into the Hope Valley Reservoir.

Operating exactly as intended, the project shows the vital role civil contractors play in supporting South Australia's essential water infrastructure and the expertise, commitment and hard work delivered by the civil sector.

This week we’re celebrating National Skills Week, recognising the vital role that skilled civil workers play in building South Australia’s future.

Civil contractors are at the forefront of delivering South Australia’s record pipeline of infrastructure projects but as the demand for infrastructure continues to grow, so too does the need for a highly skilled and capable workforce. It’s estimated that we will need an additional 20,000 workers over the next five years to fulfil South Australia’s immediate workforce needs.

CCF SA proudly plays a key role in attracting, retaining and training South Australia’s civil workforce through our group training organisation, Civil Apprenticeships and Careers Ltd (CACL), and registered training organisation, Civil Train SA - RTO 45621. While CACL attracts new talent into the industry through its civil apprenticeships program, Civil Train provides apprentices and experienced civil workers with training for the industry, by the industry, to ensure they’re equipped with the skills they need for today’s worksites and projects.

CCF SA ensures the industry has access to trained, job-ready workers now and into the future to maintain the state’s productivity, work safety and deliver quality projects.

The 2026 CCF SA Earth Awards have been run and won!

Nearly 250 civil contractors and associates filled Amora Hotel Adelaide’s ballroom on Friday 21 August for the industry’s night of nights, celebrating innovation, expertise and excellence across South Australia’s civil construction sector.

Thank you to the contractors who took the time to submit an entry for this year's awards, including Davison Earthmovers, Civil Tech Pty Ltd, McConnell Dowell, BMD Group, McMahon Services Australia Pty Ltd, BluBuilt Constructions, Leed Engineering and Construction, ACCIONA, Fleurieu Connections Alliance and McConnell Dowell SRG Global Joint Venture.

Seven different contractors took home awards across 11 categories, which showcased projects under $2 million in value through to projects valued at more than $150 million. A huge congratulations to all nominees, finalists and award winners who proudly showcased the invaluable contribution the civil sector makes to shaping South Australia’s future.

We were at the biggest ever Meet the Buyer event last week, run by the Office of the Industry Advocate South Australia.

It was great to reconnect with many of our CCF SA members, who are delivering some of the most significant infrastructure projects in South Australia's history, and speak with dozens of contractors about the role CCF SA is playing in ensuring there's a strong pipeline of skilled civil construction workers.

CCF SA's group training organisation, Civil Apprenticeships and Careers Ltd, is well positioned to help contractors build their workforce and meet their Industry Participation Plan commitments with the recruitment of job-ready apprentices.

At the same time, our group training organisation, Civil Train SA - RTO 45621, is ensuring the workforce's skills match the needs of employers and their projects.

We recently visited CCF SA business partner Peter Kittle Toyota at its impressive Para Hills headquarters – South Australia’s largest Toyota dealership. From work utes to commercial fleet vehicles, we saw firsthand why Toyota has a reputation for durability, safety and performance and is the brand of choice for many of our civil contractor members.

🚚🚛 The amended Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) came into effect this month, representing a significant update to the regulatory framework and an impact on CCF SA members.

The changes aim to improve safety, simplify compliance requirements and increase productivity across the heavy vehicle sector. As part of the changes, the National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme (NHVAS) will be progressively replaced by a new HVA framework centred on Safety Management Systems (SMS).

Importantly, operators are not required to have transitioned to the new scheme by 1 August 2026 with existing NHVAS accreditations remaining valid until expiry and both systems operating side-by-side during a transition period.
