ENTRIES EXTENDED!

We've extended this year's BMX State Championships Entries an extra week so they will now close on Monday, October 19 at 11:59pm!

A Technical Guide including the Schedule will be finalised early next week and should be posted here and on the Event Listing on the AC website on Tuesday.

Both of the remaining rounds of the SA State Series entries will close on Tuesday, October 20 (one day after State Champs closes).

If you're an ABC Adelaide listener you might've heard Jake on the radio this morning talking about the importance of the Criterium Track at Victoria Park to road cycling in SA! If you haven't shared your thoughts about the redevelopment of Victoria Park for use as a MotoGP venue, the City of Adelaide consultation survey ends tomorrow, and the SA Infrastructure and Transport survey closes this Sunday, both of which are worth the few minutes it will take you to make a submission.

We've worked closely with the SA Motorsport Board and DIT to ensure they're aware of our technical requirements for the proposed 1.2km criterium track and when the motorsport events are not bumping in or out, we expect to have access to use the full southern end of the park for events in addition to the 1.2km circuit. It isn't yet clear when the existing criterium track surface would be taken out, but we would like to make it clear that we don't believe this recreational facility should be lumped in as "more bitumen" taking over the green space of the Adelaide Parklands.

AusCycling Statement on State Series Round 4 Postponement:

Regrettably, we had to rescheduled this weekend's Kadina series round to the 5th of December. AusCycling was made aware of significant track damage on Thursday the 10th of September via reporting by the club, and following a track inspection on Friday morning a decision was made to postpone the event. The damage in question was not present at the start of the week or during any of our prior inspections, and the severity of the damage means that racing on the track would pose an unacceptable risk of injury to the riders participating.
We are currently working with the club to ensure that the track is in good condition for the rescheduled date.

EDIT 14/9: The event listing on Entryboss for this event has been cancelled and all entries refunded. New entries will be taken for the rescheduled date.

UPDATE: unfortunately due to track issues we have had to postpone this weekend’s state series round in Kadina. This decision was not made lightly, we understand that many people had planned to travel to this event. We are working with the club to find a suitable date to re-run the event when the track is safe to ride.

This is a favourite image of mine from the last several years of being involved in bike racing here in South Australia. It's from a couple of years ago when we were able to help the Santos Tour Down Under to provide a extra night of racing for the Women's World Tour riders with arguably the biggest crit Pakapakanthi/Victoria Park has seen to date.

Right now, you have the opportunity to make a submission to both DIT and the City of Adelaide and share your thoughts on the recently announced redesign of Victoria Park and other parks in the Eastern Parklands.

Since the Supercars racing returned to the park a few years ago, Norwood Cycling Club and AusCycling - SA Clubs and Community have met multiple times per year with the SA Motorsport Board about our use of Vic Park, advocating for as much use as we can possibly get while working around their bump in and out, and also ensuring what we do get to use is as safe as possible. After the announcement that MotoGP would be coming to Adelaide, SAMSB brought us in for an initial discussion, and more recently we met with them to discuss their proposed course design and how the venue could meet their needs while maintaining its status as the most-used cycling venue in the state. We're also meeting with them and DIT next week to be presented this updated redesign, and we'll be providing written feedback after that, as will Norwood CC.

I encourage all cyclists, members and otherwise, who use Victoria Park to complete the submissions to both DIT and COA.

Some facts you mind find useful while considering your response:
- nearly 1 in 5 event participations across all cycling disciplines per year in SA takes place at Victoria Park.
- more than 1 in 3 road cycling event participations per year takes place it Victoria Park.
- it is the ONLY traffic-free, cycling-specific venue for road cycling in SA, when club- and AC-run road racing has never been more expensive to organise on roads, this is more important than ever.
- places to ride your bike without worrying about cars aren't just important for racing and pathways development - research has repeatedly shown that the biggest reason people give for not riding their bikes is a lack of confidence in their own skill, something that's much easier to develop away from live traffic than on the roads.
