WHO AM I?

My background is in Family Law. I was an independent Mediator in Western Australia from 2005 to 2010 and experienced first hand how men get shafted by the system. This disturbed me as I saw how lawyers and other mediation agencies like Relationships Australia were virtually useless when helping fathers gain access. I was hated by the lawyers and boycotted by mediation agencies because I was known for my tough stand and would not allow clients to back out of mediation for frivolous reasons which all other mediation agencies did.

I would not issue certificates unless couples had made a serious attempt at mediation. Certificates were issued only when couples could not mediate after a genuine try. Couples cannot go to court without a certificate from a mediator. The certificates had 3 sections based on 1) who tried; 2) who didnt and 3) a neutral option where a box was ticked if both equally attempted mediation. This is where I began to see first hand the system against fathers. All other mediation agencies ticked the “both tried” box and issued certificates even when the mothers never turned up or stalled the process over many months....sometimes years. I never let anyone off ......if you didnt genuinely attempt mediation....then the certificate reflected that negatively against you as a court document.

Lawyers hated me but because I was not connected to any government funded agency they could not touch me. I used to get all the hard cases they rejected. They assisted mothers in keeping kids from their fathers by delay and other tactics. One such tactic was getting the mothers to mention the word “violence” in mediation. Most mediators are trained to shut mediation down the moment there is a hint of violence. I never did and recognised it as a delay tactic that mothers used to keep the kids from seeing the father. Most men were slapped with ridiculous AVO’s who came to see me......you could see the desperation in their eyes of not seeing their children for months even years. Unfortunately we saw a few fathers commit su***de through sheer devastation of being kept away from their kids. It is not a mental disorder or depression....don not believe this rubbish. These fathers were squeezed by an unfair system and killed themselves as a result....they saw no way out. If you have issues with Mediation or access issues, please do not hesitate to contact me.
