We can’t wait to welcome THEMATIKOS to the Geelong Fragrance Fair.
THEMATIKOS is a Mother + Son duo from Melbourne, Australia.
The sense of smell fascinates us - in particular, its ability to enkindle nostalgia and create unique, sentimental and above all, subjective meaning. What one scent triggers in one person, is often completely different to what it may in another.
With this, our creative lens, everything becomes magnified. When we fully embrace it, we push boundaries, we become more.
Our products are portals. Portals to moments, memories and stories. Time capsules, containing carefully stored nostalgic threads, now ready for pulling at your will.
Everything THEMATIKOS has been born, designed, created and hand made in Melbourne, Australia. // — Philosophia // to us, THEMATIKOS is more than a name. It is a concept that allows us to go deeper and explore meaning through moments, memories and stories which, in our case, are uncovered by the olfactory sense of smell.
THEMATIKOS was built by us, premised on Four F’s: [Family/Friends] [Fragrance] [Fun] and [Filoxenia].
Every scent has a story - thank you for letting us tell it.

We are delighted to announce that Dr Caroline McMillan will be joining us at the Geelong Fragrance Fair for a talk entitled "Inhale the Future: science, space and the senses with Dr Caroline McMillan".

At a remarkable threshold, fragrance collides with frontier science. Researchers are mapping odour plumes and olfactory receptors to understand the shape of scent, and why two people can smell the same rose yet experience it differently. New molecules never found in nature are emerging, and scent technology is advancing fast: companies are racing to build scent-emitting devices and libraries that encode aromas into data to be transmitted, replicated and personalised on demand, while the electronic nose can now detect and synthesise complex scent profiles with extraordinary precision.

Experience designers are fusing scent with sound, architecture and light to create immersive environments that resonate with emotion, memory and wellbeing. As fragrance moves beyond the bottle, smell, a primal yet underestimated human sense, is finally receiving the scientific and creative attention it deserves. The nose knows, and its future is breathtaking.

Dr McMillan is an Australian olfactory researcher, artist and technologist whose practice spans installation, performance and the body as a site of critique, exploring the aesthetics and ethics of human and machine interaction and its societal, multispecies impacts. Recent projects examine environmental sensing and the atmospheric ecologies of plant and pollinator relationships.

Her work has been shown at SXSW, Cannes Lions, Ars Electronica, the Digital Olfaction Society, Fotografiska Berlin, Tin Sheds Gallery, Melbourne Design Week and the Institute for Art and Olfaction. She is a Research Fellow of the Neuronex Odor2Action Network and is currently part of the Space Sensory Lab.
