🏆Sport might bring us together, but volunteers are the reason we stay connected.

We’ve come across a brilliant podcast here at Volunteering Geelong, and we think it deserves a shout out.

Pitch In, is an 8 part series about community sport and the power of volunteering, taking a look at Australian sport from the ground up.

Brought to us by the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia Community Broadcasting Association of Australia and hosted by Aussie comedy legend Lehmo , Pitch In brings us the stories of the people, clubs and volunteers who make grassroots sport happen.

And Episode 2, The Invisible Backbone: Volunteers, really caught our attention.

Because behind every game, every club, every sausage sizzle, every marked field and every kid getting their moment on the court or oval, there are volunteers.

People who give their time, bring people together, create connections and help make their communities stronger. Often quietly and without expecting much recognition.

This episode is a wonderful reminder of just how much volunteers contribute, not only to sport, but to the sense of connection and belonging that comes with being part of a community.

And a big shout out to Lehmo, who is a fantastic host, bringing plenty of warmth, humour and curiosity to these stories.

Pitch In is told across eight episodes, with shorter 8 minute segments made especially for community radio. You can also listen to the series wherever you get your podcasts.

Because sport might bring us together, but volunteers are the people who help keep us connected.
