We have officially finished the May 50K challenge!

It’s been a big month of walking, running and rolling, with a total of 185 kilometers logged. Lauren (community mentor team leader) was averaging 12,000 step per day!

The Liberty team wants to thank everyone who donated, shared or supported us during the challenge.

Thanks to your wonderful generosity, we have raised $1,331 for MS Australia.

These funds go directly to prevention research, treatments and finding a cure for multiple sclerosis... helping to change lives of those living with MS.

THANK YOU ❤️

And a special shout out to Liberty’s team members Kellie, Elisha and Cara- who received the highest amount of donations, overall helping us to reach our goal!

GO CARA!

One of our Support Coordinators looking fantastic in her The May 50K T-shirt!

Despite the chilly autumn weather, the team has been getting out there, braving the cold and getting those steps in for the May 50k Challenge.

So far, we’ve collectively logged almost 130 kilometres!

And we’re so SO close to reaching our fundraising goal, with only $169 to go! Can you spare a dollar or two to help us reach $1000?!

Funds go directly to MS Australia, assisting prevention research, life-changing treatment, and supporting those living with Multiple Sclerosis.

This is a cause that is very close to our hearts, seeing first hand how people are impacted by MS. Your support means SO much to us, and helps the MS community feel seen and supported.

Let’s keep walking, running or rolling our way through May, and leave MS where it belongs... BEHIND US!

Today, on National Sorry Day, we acknowledge the pain and lasting impact of the Stolen Generations on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We recognise that for First Nations people living with a disability, the effects of intergenerational trauma and disconnection from family, culture and Country can continue to impact wellbeing.

It’s also a time to recognise the strength, resilience, and courage of survivors, their families and communities and the importance of truth-telling and healing.

At Liberty Disability Services, we are committed to providing culturally safe and respectful support that honours connection to family, community and Country.

Our hearts are with all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples affected, those who were taken, those separated from family, community and Country, and the generations who continue to carry this impact.

Today, and every day, we say sorry 💛❤️🖤

Take extra care of yourself today.

We are so proud to ba little part of Lou's incredible work. Her energy and care is something to see. She works hard in everything she does to make this world a little bit better each day.

Congrats Lou for the acknowledgement of the change you bring - so deserved

Every media interview brings me back to my purpose and reflects me back to the beginning.

The reason Friend in Me started, the heart behind it all, and just how much bigger it has become than I ever imagined.

Today is Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD)

This year’s theme, ‘Design, Develop and Deliver,’ reminds us that businesses have a responsibility to create accessible content and systems that benefit all abilities. It reminds us that digital accessibility should be implemented into EVERYTHING we do online.

For many people living with disability, inaccessible websites, videos, social media posts and digital platforms can create real barriers to connection, information, education and independence.

Something as simple as:

- Adding captions to videos
- Writing image descriptions/alt text
- Using easy-to-read language
- Creating clear colour contrast
-Designing accessible websites
..can all make a huge difference!

In recognition of this day, we’ve created a digital social script that explains ‘How to get started with Liberty.’ This social script gives you a step-by-step guide on the intake process, ensuring you know exactly what to do, and what to expect. It’s designed to be accessible, and insightful- so you feel prepared, informed and ready to embark on your journey with Liberty. It also features our lovely Intake Coordinator, Mel!

The social script is available on our website (Link below)

Let’s always create digital spaces where everyone can access, participate and belong 💙

Happy IDAHOBIT Day! 🏳️‍🌈

International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) is observed every year on May 17th.

IDAHOBIT is a day to recognise and challenge discrimination faced by LGBTQIA+ people, and to promote inclusion, safety, and equal rights for all.

At Liberty, we recognise that people with disability who are part of the LGBTQIA+ community can face additional barriers to safety, inclusion and access. This day is an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to doing better.

Why do we go rainbow? 🌈
For us, wearing rainbow is a visible commitment to inclusion, respect and advocacy.

For participants 💙
We support participants who are part of the rainbow community, and we want them to feel safe, seen, and valued for exactly who they are.

Everyone deserves services that are safe, inclusive, and free from judgement, where identity is respected and rights are upheld.

For our team 🩷
We wear rainbow for our LGBTQIA+ staff, whose lived experiences strengthen our work and our culture.

Everyone deserves to feel safe at work and have equal access to opportunity, respect and dignity.

For the community 💛
We wear rainbow in recognition of the broader community, including those who may not yet feel safe to be visible, heard, or fully themselves.

We see you, and we stand by you.

Wearing rainbow is more than symbolic, it reflects an ongoing commitment to inclusive practice. It’s about creating environments where diversity is respected, and where people with disability can participate fully and safely in their communities.

To our LGBTQIA+ community, including people with disability, families, carers and staff: Liberty is committed to providing a safe, inclusive and respectful environment, and to upholding your rights.

We recognise IDAHOBIT today, and remain committed to inclusive, culturally safe and rights-based practice every day.

Happy Mother's Day to all 🩷

Every day we recognise the wonderful mums in our community. The caregivers, the advocates, the everyday heroes that give unwavering love and support. To the mums of children with disability, and the mums living with a disability themselves- you deserve to be SO proud of all that you do 💙

We also want to take this moment to give a special shout-out to foster mums and kinship carers. Working in the disability sector, we often see people in the role of a foster parent or kinship carer. We see the love, safety, compassion and care they provide a child who isn’t their own. We see their struggles, but more importantly we see their strength 💛 And today, we want to shine a light on the amazing impact they have in the community.

Sending all thoughts to anyone who may struggle today. Mother's Day can be difficult for some, for a variety of reasons. Whatever today brings you, remember that you are loved.
