Last Thursday we explored one of the most thought-provoking themes in personal development, confidence vs competence, with our word of the day: aptitude.

We were treated to two fantastic prepared speeches:
๐ŸŽฌ David took us on a journey with Ryan Gosling, Walter Mitty, and the leap of faith
๐Ÿ’ซ Toni asked the big question: what do we do to feel alive?

Awards of the night:
๐Ÿ† Best Speaker: Toni
๐Ÿ† Best Evaluator: Anya (in her first time as evaluator!)
๐Ÿ† Best Table Topics: Helen (a visitor tonight!)

We also held our committee elections for the coming year. We're thrilled to announce our new committee, formally taking over in July:

๐Ÿ”น President: Elton
๐Ÿ”น VP Education: Simone
๐Ÿ”น VP Membership: Sue
๐Ÿ”น VP Public Relations: Nina
๐Ÿ”น Treasurer: Mansi
๐Ÿ”น Secretary: Toni
๐Ÿ”น Meeting Manager Coordinator: Winnie
๐Ÿ”น Sergeant at Arms: Hao

There are some continuing from last year, some familiar faces in new roles, and some exciting new additions. 2026-27 is looking bright๐ŸŒŸ

Our next meeting is in two weeks time, Thursday 11 June, 6:15pm for a 6:30pm start at the South Barwon Community Centre, 33 Mount Pleasant Rd, Belmont.

A huge shoutout to our very own Sue for representing our club in the Evaluation Competition at the District 73 annual conference in Melbourne today! ๐ŸŽ‰

Competition was tough and just getting to that level takes incredible skill. Congratulations Sue and everyone else who competed this weekend! ๐Ÿ‘

We rolled out the red carpet last Thursday night at Toastmasters with our โ€œLights, Camera, Action!โ€ theme, inspired by the recent Cannes Film Festival. Plenty of movie magic, great speeches, and award-worthy moments throughout the evening.

A warm welcome to Clint, who was inducted as a new member tonight. He jumped straight into the action as a Timer and weโ€™re looking forward to hearing more from him in future meetings.

Our Toastmaster, Cyril, for the evening kept things moving smoothly between speakers with plenty of energy to keep the audience engaged.

We also welcomed several guests tonight, both new and returning. Thanks for joining us and we hope you enjoyed the meeting. If you scanned the QR code while you were there, weโ€™ll be in touch with more information about membership. If not, send us a DM and weโ€™ll happily point you in the right direction.

Big congratulations to our award winners for the evening:๐Ÿ† Best Speaker: David๐Ÿ† Best Evaluator: Sue๐Ÿ† Best Table Topics: Pam (guest)

Special mention to Pam for taking out Best Table Topics as a guest. Not a bad debut performance at all. Hollywood would probably already be discussing sequel rights.

We hit the high notes tonight (the theme was jazz....see what I did there)

Tonight at Toastmasters we welcomed Antonio as a new member. He got straight into it too, doing the Timer role for us tonight. Welcome Tony and we look forward to hearing more from you soon!

Christina did an entertaining job as Toastmaster tonight, keeping the audience entertained with various jazz-related facts between speakers.

Big congrats on Winnie for completing Level 1 of Pathways tonight too. For those unfamiliar with this, this comprises 5 speeches plus an evaluated evaluation speech (that last one takes a little bit to get your head around). It usually takes most people at least a year to work their way through this but is well worth it in terms of building your ability to confidently present in public.

We had five guests tonight, both new and returning. Welcome and we hope you enjoyed the meeting. If you scanned the QR code while you were here, we'll be in touch with more info on membership- if you didn't, send us a DM and we'll get that through to you.

Best speaker was Simone, best evaluator a tie between Nina/ Elton and best Table Topics Carlos, who was a guest tonight. Carlos had to go early and we didn't get to present his certificate to him, but in case he reads this, we'd love him to visit again, pick up his cert and treat us to another great Table Topics speech!

Next meeting is in two weeks time, Thursday 14 May, 6:15pm for a 6:30 start at the South Barwon Community Centre, 33 Mount Pleasant Rd, Belmont. All welcome!
