Geelong Toastmasters Club Win! We invite you to become part of this network for the opportunity to develop your communication skills in an enjoyable, relaxed and positive environment.

Geelong Toastmasters can assist in refining your public speaking skills in a safe, warm, supportive, friendly environment by providing the forum, the structure, along with tips for improvement. Geelong Toastmasters Club (formerly known as City of Greater Geelong Toastmasters Club) forms part of Toastmasters International, a non- profit organisation spanning 116 countries with the aim of promoting

oral communication and skills in leadership. Our club membership hails from all walks of life, bringing together a wide range of experiences and speaking abilities which we believe enriches our friendly and supportive club. Whatever your speaking capabilities, the doors to the Geelong Toastmasters are always open. We welcome guests to our meetings so the benefits of Toastmasters can be experienced first-hand. Our club meets every second and last Thursday of each month at the South Barwon Community Centre Inc, 33 Mt Pleasant Road, Belmont. Guests and members arrive by 6:15 pm. Meetings commence at 6:30 pm and conclude at 9.00pm.

🤔 What if ... you made small, incremental changes, would that be easier than making one big change? Last night's meeting was an interesting one for the club, with changes to the meeting format and room setup, we certainly gave everyone a bit of a challenge!

But these legends were the ones who tackled it head on and came out on top:
🥇 Best Speaker: Jeremy for his bass-less Icebreaker 👏 hands being unemployed was a 🤌 line
🥇 Best Table Topics: Simone for the dive into her admiration of IKEA interior decorators
🥇 Best Evaluator: Cyril, who did an incredible job evaluating ALL FIVE Table Topics

10th September is our next meeting and the last one before the competition season starts 🏁

Please note that our usual meeting on 24th September is cancelled due to the public holiday and the school holidays.

A big congratulations to all our winners and thank you to our members and guests for another engaging Geelong Toastmasters meeting this week 🙏

Winners of the day were 🥁 *drum roll*
🥇 Best Speaker: Pam for her poetic outlook on life
🥇 Best Table topics: Gus for his insight into how billions of dollars would change him (it wouldn't and he'd probably give it all away 👏)
🥇 Best Evaluator: Sue for being an absolute wordsmith and for her always valuable and insightful feedback

What to expect from a regular Toastmasters meeting:

🦤 Round robin - a chance for each meeting attendee to warm up and answer a question in 30 seconds or less. A quick game is a good game!

💬 Prepared speeches - 2-4 members will present their speeches that work towards their pathways.

🗣 Table Topics - 4 questions asked on the spot with 2 min to respond. Will you be asked to answer? Who knows!

🫖 BREAK TIME

📚 Evaluations - most important part of the night, the evaluations. A chance for members to give feedback and give recommendations for improvement.

And that's it! Even if you're not speaking, there are so many chances to speak and learn across every meeting. We hope to see you at a meeting soon

How much more fun is a story when it's delivered in different voices? 🗣️ Or when the softly spoken dialogue is whispered and the shouting is, well, shouted?

Vocal variety is a technique that is regularly emphasised and practiced at Toastmasters. We had the perfect example demonstrated at the last Toastmasters meeting where member David took us through the difference between a monotone reading of a children's book and one with voices (and all that other fun stuff children get). We were all struck by how much more attention we paid to the latter reading!

Let's not leave the fun of a story to kid's books 📚 Bring it to life in your everyday speech and see how much of a difference it makes!

Need some practice? Our next meeting is on Thursday, 30th July at 6:30pm down at the South Barwon Community Centre. We'd love to see you there!

The Geelong Toastmasters and guests tackled 🎨 creativity and imagination 💭 in last night's meeting. It may have been a foggy winter's night outside, but our gorgeous guests and speakers brought the light to the meeting ☀️

Sue was our Toastmaster and although she's been avoiding doing this role, we can all agree she knocked it out of the park with her wit and generosity 👐

Our next meeting is on 30th July, arrive at 6:15pm for a 6:30pm start. It will be a short one for guests as members will have their AGM after the main meeting concludes.

Love them or hate them, Icebreakers are a much loved tool to break down barriers.

At Toastmaster, we also love an Icebreaker. But we give you the freedom to speak about whatever you'd like! Work, personal, just a random topic you love? The world (and the Toastmasters stage) is your oyster 🌏

We're lucky to have an Icebreaker speech at this week's meeting! Come down to the South Barwon Community Centre at 6:30pm to see what Toastmasters is all about
