My plan to end the squeeze on democracy.

So many of you have told me you're sick of corruption and vested interests. That's why I've developed my Restoring Trust white paper. Only 1 in 5 Victorians think the state government is doing a good job fighting corruption, the worst of any state surveyed, and when trust goes, people stop believing politics can work for them.

A democracy needs journalists who can investigate government and citizens who know how it works. I'll fight for truth in political advertising and laws that stop community groups being sued into silence.

What a wonderful morning celebrating the first birthday of

I absolutely love the energy, buzz and sense of community that markets bring. I spoke with so many people about what matters to them, from getting vested interests out of politics (a BIG priority of mine!) to concerns about data centres.

The is on this weekend! Despite receiving no public funding, the organisers have worked their socks off to bring an incredible line-up of comedians to our community. One organiser literally had bleeding feet from working so hard! Please get out and support them. There are fantastic shows tonight and tomorrow, including Jokers with a range of performances at from 4.30 pm tomorrow.

I also caught up with the , campaigning to protect the magnificent Scott Reef from destructive gas development. These precious marine ecosystems are irreplaceable, and we must do everything we can to protect them.

And a special shout-out to 14-year-old Zave, who makes absolutely delicious homemade cookies with his mum! Check out .

This is what I love about our community. People creating, caring, speaking up, supporting one another and making Geelong a better place.

Great to be out and about last night, hearing what matters to people at the city's new hawker-style Asian night market (delicious food and the best drums ever) and meeting people on Rippleside's streets.

Also had the opportunity to pay my respects to Helen Haines at the city vigil, where a large candle lit up the city. I am still reeling from this on so many levels, what it means for society, democracy, women, etc.

She and every other victim of violence are in my thoughts. I have worked in advocating for the prevention of violence against women for many years on and off, and it is something very passionate to me. Several months ago, I submitted recommendations to the VEC to reform and ensure the safety of politicians and political candidates, and I hope some of them will be taken on board now. I also raised these concerns with some of the tech giants.

I will fight hard for stronger prevention and support services to combat the epidemic of violence against women. I am also advocating for much better funding for mental health services in regional areas, a priority repeatedly raised in my surveys. Likewise, I will fight for greater accountability, respect for human rights and responsibility (which I already do in numerous ways) from big business.

Only 1 in 5 Victorians think the state government is doing a good job fighting corruption, the worst of any state surveyed, and when trust goes, people stop believing politics can work for them.

96% of Victorian MPs surveyed by IBAC say failing to report wrongdoing is the biggest corruption risk among their colleagues. People who speak up should be protected, not punished.
