🪢 Tonight our Cubs and Scouts tackled Outdoor Adventure Skills ... entirely indoors! Campfire safety with no campfire! 🔥Hiking pack preparation without the hike! 🌳 While we might have dodged being outside tonight, 🥶 we're all a little bit more ready to get out there! 🐺

Tonight our Group marked National Reconciliation Week with a night built around it. We put 65,000 years of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge on a timeline and let it speak for itself. Fish traps older than Stonehenge. Astronomy older than the pyramids. Navigation across open ocean before any other culture on Earth had attempted it. The depth of what was built and known on this continent is extraordinary! This year's theme for Reconciliation Week is ALL IN and tonight, we absolutely were! 🐾

Tonight our Cubs were out on the streets around the hall with chalk in hand, laying and following Scout trail symbols — the same marks Scouts have been leaving for each other in the bush for over a century. ✏️ 🌳 Meanwhile our Scouts were inside working on their Special Interest Areas — individual projects they’ve chosen themselves, pursuing goals that match what actually interests them! 🔍 A great way to spend a chilly Wednesday night in Geelong. 🐺

🌿 This week our Cubs and Scouts headed out to Johnstone Park for a Wildlife Patrol on the lookout for possums living in the urban tree canopy.

Armed with a couple of torches and a little bit of curiosity, the group moved quietly through the park spotting and recording common brushtail and ringtail possums in the branches overhead. Not a bad way to spend a Wednesday night in Geelong.

Tonight tied directly into our Messengers of Peace work — one of the ways Scouts contribute to a better world is by paying attention to it. Knowing what's living alongside us in our own city is a pretty good place to start!

💐 Happy Mother’s Day! Today we celebrate all the incredible mums in our Scouting community, from the Leaders who give their time to support and inspire young people, to the mums and carers guiding, encouraging and helping shape the journey along the way.

Thank you for the care, dedication and support you bring every day. Scouting wouldn’t be the same without you.

We hope you feel appreciated today and every day 💛

🥾 Trail Jam 2026 — done! ✅ Today members from all of our Joeys, Cubs and Scouts sections took on the bush between the Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie and Anglesea to participate in this year’s TrailJam. Originally called ‘Jamboree on the Trail’, TrailJam is a coordinated day of bushwalking where scouting members head out to explore local tracks and trails on the same weekend.
Today we had some hike the ‘core’ trail of 6km, and a handful went the full distance back to where they started. Amazing work by everyone involved! 🐺

🎂 Happy 100th birthday to friend of scouting, Sir David Attenborough! Before he became the voice of the natural world, he was a Cub Scout himself! Turns out spending your early years being curious, getting outside, and paying attention to the world around you has a pretty good return on investment. 🌿
100 years well lived. 🐺

🌮 ¡Feliz Cinco de Mayo from 1st Barwon / 2nd Geelong! This week we celebrated with a full Mexican Fiesta — food, games, crafts and plenty of fun as we explored Mexican culture together. 🇲🇽
Scouting exists in Mexico too — same movement, same badge, just a slightly different continent. We figure that’s worth celebrating! 🌎

✨ May the 4th be with you! ✨

Today we’re celebrating all things adventure, teamwork and a little bit of Jedi spirit.

Whether you’re building shelters, navigating the outdoors, or leading your Patrol like a true Jedi Master, Scouts are always ready to take on the next challenge.

So grab your gear, trust your training, and remember… the Force is strong with this one.

🤟 Tonight our Cubs and Scouts got hands-on with Auslan — Australian Sign Language. We learned how to sign letters and numbers, and explored a bit of the history behind the language — including the Australian Sign Language dictionary, first published in 1989, which was a landmark moment in recognising Auslan as a language in its own right.
A great reminder that Scouting isn’t just about the outdoors — it’s about understanding the world and the people in it a little better. 👂 👋
