Congratulations to AFL Victoria on taking out the Division 1 Men's Inclusion Competition at the Toyotal AFL Open 🏆

The week showcased the very best of disability and inclusion football, with athletes from around Australia demonstrating outstanding skill, determination and teamwork.

Events like the Toyota AFL Open are a powerful reminder of the importance of grassroots sport, with community clubs, local competitions and inclusive participation opportunities playing a vital role in developing athletes, building confidence and creating pathways for ongoing involvement in the game.

Leisure Networks is proud to partner with AFL Victoria and FIDA - Football Integration Development Association to deliver the Junior All Abilities Pathway Program, engaging more than 38 specialist schools and close to 900 students across Victoria through inclusive and enjoyable football experiences.

When asked about the Geelong Running Festival, Step Together participant James Elford summed it up perfectly:

"I reckon I'll try to run some of it and when I get puffed out, I'll walk." 😊

A few weeks ago, James and fellow participants from our Step Together Walking Program joined the Geelong community for the All Abilities 1 Mile Event at the inaugural Geelong Running Festival.

With plenty of determination, encouragement and smiles along the way, participants embraced the challenge and loved being part of such an inclusive community event 🧡

Here's to taking on new challenges, celebrating every achievement and enjoying the journey together.

The fun never stops at LN! 😄

Our adult social weekend activities have been a huge hit over the past few weeks, with plenty of fantastic opportunities to get out, connect with friends, and try something new.

We've explored the stunning Great Ocean Road, cheered on our beloved Melbourne United basketball team, enjoyed a great night out at Chaos Bar, and headed to the Sun Theatre in Yarraville for a movie night complete with plenty of popcorn 🍿.

A New Home and a Fresh Start

When Michelle's previous Support Coordinator ceased services, she was left needing both a new Support Coordinator and a new home before her rental lease ended.

Working remotely with Leisure Networks Support Coordinator Brody, Michelle navigated a challenging housing search with limited rental options available in her area. Through persistence, creative problem-solving and a person-centred approach, Michelle secured a new rental in her preferred location.

Along the way, temporary accommodation was arranged while waiting for the new lease to begin, and even care was found for Michelle's beloved cat, Tim.

Last week, Michelle moved into her new home, with Housing Connect assisting with her bond and first two weeks' rent.

This outcome highlights the difference personalised Support Coordination can make, helping people navigate challenges, connect with the right supports and achieve their goals with confidence.

The impact of Support Coordination isn't always measured in plans and paperwork. Sometimes it's measured in hope.

After experiencing a challenging period of personal loss, health concerns, and disconnection from services, one participant continued to stay in touch with their Leisure Networks Support Coordinator.

Together, they explored options, rebuilt connections with supports, and took small steps forward.

Today, that participant is back out in the community, enjoying the sunshine, focusing on their wellbeing, and reconnecting with the things that bring them joy.

Their message to their Support Coordinator said it all:
"Thank you for all the support, especially these past few months. You are a hero in my eyes."

It's a reminder of the difference that genuine support, strong relationships, and a person-centred approach can make.
