We're flashing back to last week when the Give Where You Live Foundation proudly hosted its fifth Conversations That Matter event, featuring endurance athlete and philanthropist Nedd Brockman for a powerful and deeply human conversation about homelessness, housing insecurity and community action.

The event, attended by over 300 people and generously sponsored by GMHBA and the TAC, brought together community leaders, advocates, service providers, and people with lived experience to explore the growing impact of homelessness across the Geelong region.

Homelessness in the Greater Geelong region is escalating at an alarming rate. Between 2016 and 2021, it surged by more than 50 per cent; over ten times the national increase.

But behind the data are real people.

Too many single mothers fleeing family violence, forced to sleep in their cars with their children.

Too many young people experiencing family breakdown and entering the homelessness pipeline.

Too many people falling through the cracks of an overwhelmed system.

Geelong has always been a community that shows up for one another. And right now, that spirit matters more than ever.

Please give a gift to the Give Where You Live Foundation's End of Financial Year Appeal. Let's create a Geelong where everyone has a safe place to call home.

Reconciliation is about listening deeply and working toward lasting change for our First Nations community.

Our connection to this year's National Reconciliation Week theme, ALL IN, is reflected through our commitment to strengthening our partnership, listening and amplifying the voices of First Nations people in our community. The Foundation has proudly supported reconciliation and, when invited, been privileged to stand alongside our First Nations people.

We aspire to create a fairer community that is inclusive and enables all people and places to thrive.

The Give Where You Live Foundation acknowledges the Traditional Owners and Custodians of Country throughout Australia. We recognise the loss of lands and culture, knowing the consequences for people, communities and nations. We pay our respect to First Nations Elders both past and present, and acknowledge that sovereignty over these lands and waters has never been ceded. We acknowledge the land on which we work is Wadawurrung country.

Homelessness in the Greater Geelong region is escalating at an alarming rate. Between 2016 and 2021, it surged by more than 50 per cent; over ten times the national increase.

Today, more than 5,200 local households are on the priority waitlist for social housing, with thousands more living in hidden, insecure or unsafe situations.
Rough sleeping is rising. Rental affordability is at record lows. And the services people turn to for help are stretched far beyond capacity.

Geelong has always been a community that shows up for one another. And right now, that spirit matters more than ever.

Make a gift this end of financial year to support your local community.

With your help this end of financial year, we can continue working toward a Geelong where everyone has a safe place to call home.

We’re growing a fairer community from the ground up at The Paddock Community Farm

28/05/2026

The Paddock Community Farm enables the Give Where You Live Foundation to grow a fairer community from the ground up.

The Foundation is inviting Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from organisations who share our commitment to building a fairer, more connected community. We are currently accepting EOIs for projects planned for 2026 and 2027.

Currently there are two partnerships that exist at The Paddock; a social enterprise wholesale nursery, and farming to grow food for local food security programs.

We are looking for;
- existing initiatives that look to scale up, or new project ideas to being to life
- initiatives that strengthen food security, expand learning and education opportunities, and create inclusive skills pathways
- to respond to emerging community needs while supporting long‑term, sustainable outcomes.

Expressions of interest are now open at https://www.givewhereyoulive.com.au/2026/05/5679
