Pioneer Valley Rail Trail

Pioneer Valley Rail Trail The vision for PVRT is to develop a “coast-to-mountains” multi-user trail.

Stretching from Bluewater Trail in Mackay to Finch Hatton MTB, by re-purposing sections of a disused rail corridor and using existing or constructed pathways. The vision for PVRT is to develop a “coast-to-mountains” multi-user trail within the Pioneer Valley Rail Corridor. Ultimately stretching from Bluewater Trail in Mackay to trailheads at Mirani, Gargett and Finch Hatton MTB. This will be accom

plished by re-purposing sections of disused and existing rail corridor, using existing or constructed shared pathways. It will be complimented in the early years by a supportive network of quiet roads and tracks.

We have installed the first seats on the Pioneer Valley Rail Trail! Thank you again to our wonderful volunteers Stephen and Alyth. A Big thank you also to Damien Thomas from CCB Services for the granite to use as a base. He also lent us his whacker packer - thank you 🙏 The seats were kindly made by the Pioneer Valley Men’s Shed and we hope you enjoy them. Once the seats were installed, we headed back to Benholme to remove some pesky weeds from the new section of trail being developed. Watch this space!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY 🥳
And just like that your community trail has turned one 🎂

It’s been a year where the trail has had improvements of drainage work and surface upgrades.
Trees planted and lots and lots of visitors.
A very large amount of time has been put in by the volunteers who continue to Develop, Maintain and Promote your trail.

In the coming year you will see continued improvements and expansion during the “dry“ season.

Currently Mackay Regional Council is erecting information boards at the Mirani and Finch Hatton trail heads and assisting with trail maintenance.
Volunteers will erect another information board at the Gargett Trail Head, and many safety signs along the route.

The weekly events of WALK TALK & COFFEE and GROUP SOCIAL RIDE details are on our page. We do hope you can enjoy your trail and meet new friends.

We also thank our many corporate contributors who are generous with their support of the Pioneer Valley Rail Trail.

With your support of volunteering or grants, one day we would like to see your trail from Netherdale to the Mackay Harbour connecting all the communities in the Valley.

Thank you again to our trusty volunteers Stephen, Alyth and Carolyn for the work completed on Saturday. They were super excited when a new volunteer Wayne arrived. He was brilliant and it really bolstered their spirits to have an extra helper. The four of them mowed and snipped Benholme to the just past the first gate, and Dunwold to Dump road. The newly planted Alamandas were also pink taped to avoid hair cuts. About 4 km of trail snipped and tidied 8am to 12pm before calling it quits. Thank you 🤩🤩🤩🤩
The next working bee is @ 8am Saturday 13 June. Hopefully we will meet more volunteers!

Please look out for and support Containers for Change Bins which have been installed at
- Finch Hatton Gorge bus stop,
- Platypus Beach,
- Cattle Creek Picnic Area Gargett and
- Mirani RV dump point.
This was an initiative of Alyth on behalf of the Pioneer Valley Rail Trail. We are very keen to look after our environment, as well as raise funds to cover costs such as insurance and maintenance
Thank you to Alyth, Anna, Mackay Council and NQ Containers for Change.
