Duke's Day Duke Paoa Kahanamoku, 24 year old Hawaiian Olympic swimming champion, spent Christmas at the Boomerang camp at the invitation of Freshwater SLSC in 1914.

Over the next few weeks, Duke made a big impact on surfing in Australia with incredible displays of board riding or 'surf shooting' as it was described at the time. ly sourced sugar pine. An impressive 2.6m long and weighing over 42kgs, this same board stands proudly on display at the Freshwater Surf Life Saving Club.
