The next MUA Youth event is only 1 day away!

We have gotten great feedback and responses from members who have put in RSVPs.

It looks like its shaping up to be another great event where the youth can meet other members in the union and have a couple of beers to kick off the weekend.

Pilot Energy has entered administration, putting the clean-up of the Cliff Head offshore oil platform near Dongara in doubt. Which everyone knew, and everyone saw it coming. The decommissioning is estimated to cost around $200 million, and now this problem falls into the hands of the Australian people yet again!

This is exactly why Australia needs strong decommissioning laws, proper financial security from operators, and a local industry ready to do the clean-up work. We have already seen with the Northern Endeavour what happens when companies collapse or walk away and government has to step in.

How many times do we need to see this happen before these oil and gas companies are held accountable! The oil and gas industry must pay to fully remove and clean up its own infrastructure, not leave the public, workers, or the ocean carrying the cost.

Keep it local, keep the jobs, make industry clean up its own mess.

MUA Youth Meeting This Friday!

When: 3pm, Friday 22nd of May
Where: Upstairs, Buffalo Club, 54 High St, Fremantle WA 6160

After a little delay, we have locked in our next MUA youth meeting for this Friday.

This meeting will allow youth members from all over the industry to come together, discuss issues in our industry, talk about initiatives the youth could pursue, and plan upcoming events for the youth members.
And also, maybe have a couple of sundowner beers afterwards.

The meeting is low stress and a great way for new members to come and see what its all about.

Zoom details can be provided on request

Due to work being done on the Fremantle bridge, it has been difficult to hold youth meetings at the office.
So the Buffalo Club has kindly decided to give us the upstairs of the building to hold their our upcoming meeting.

Hope to see you all there and if you have any questions, please reach out to Daniel Piccoli at [email protected]

MUA Youth Snap Action at SeaLink!

On Wednesday, MUA youth members engaged in a snap action to support our fellow MUA members at SeaLink who are currently negotiating their new EBA.

After months of negotiation with this employer, progress continues to move at a snail's pace, If at all!

SeaLink runs the Transperth ferries and a ferry service to Rottenest.
So, the youth decided to go out and spread the word to some of the passengers using these ferries. Youth members visited Elisabeth Quay in the morning to hand out leaflets and spread the word to Transperth passengers arriving in the city for work.

We then made our way to the SeaLink Rottenest ferry leaving Elisabeth Quay that morning. Making sure people enjoying a day off work and travelling to see Rotto are aware the MUA members working hard on the ferries to safely take them are being shafted by this company.

Response was positive with many passengers reading the flyers and showing support. The only people being negative was SeaLink management cracking the sh*ts about us exposing them. Too bad!

MUA Youth WA stands in solidarity with our fellow SeaLink members in their fight to get a proper EBA outcome!
