Winter on Wadjemup 🌊
Sharing some of the huge efforts from volunteer groups , with support from recently on Wadjemup - Rottnest Island, after a number of large cold fronts which in turn pushed all sorts of debris onto the islands beaches.
August 4-10 was Keep Australia Beautiful Week , and to celebrate, organised to have volunteers from Bob Hawke College and City Beach Primary come over to help clean-up Stark Bay on the north coast of the island. This was supported by the legends over at
65kg of marine debris was removed from Stark Bay 🤝
June 8 was World Oceans Day 🐋 and to celebrate ran a cleanup with again sponsored by the legends at to bring volunteers over from Ellenbrook Secondary College to assist in a clean-up at Salmon Bay.
46 kg of marine debris was removed from Salmon Bay, starting and finishing at Fairbridge Bluff- a site that has evidence of ancient corals 🪸
In addition to these efforts, the Rottnest Island Authority Rangers are constantly removing large items off beaches and hard to reach coastal areas which doesn’t go un-noticed.
So cool to see these efforts happening to help preserve the unique and fragile coastline on Wadjemup - Rottnest Island.
