When we support the people holding our communities together, the impact ripples far beyond the room.

Over the past 18 months, 114 frontline workers from 37 agencies have taken part in Imagined Futures’ Exploring Burnout and Activating Self-Care workshops - and the shift has been real.

Participants are leaving with greater confidence, clearer boundaries and practical strategies they’re already putting into practice. Just as importantly, they’ve had space to connect across roles and organisations - and to normalise honest conversations about burnout, stress and sustainability.

A huge part of this impact has been Romy Pritchard from RDP Enterprise Solutions. Her facilitation turns insight into action, creating the kind of environment where people can reflect deeply, share openly and walk away with tools they’ll actually use.

What we’re hearing is clear:
· People feel more equipped to manage stress and prevent burnout
· They are rethinking how they show up in their roles
· And they’re taking practical steps toward more sustainable ways of working

As one participant shared:

“It was brilliant and inspiring… motivated me to see my work as an extension of my whole self.”

We’re grateful to Neami National and the City of Melville for backing this work, and to Romy for delivering it in a way that truly makes a difference.

We’re so excited to finally share this.

For a long time, it’s been difficult to clearly articulate what Imagined Futures contributes - how the work comes together across people, organisations, and systems. This video helps tell that story in a way we haven’t been able to before.

This moment has been a long time coming, and we’re grateful the stars aligned to make it happen.

Every person featured has made a significant contribution to this shared work - and there are many others who could have been part of this story too.
A huge thank you to Kate Kelly for bringing this to life - no small feat, and we’re incredibly grateful.

Community action at its best.

During the April school holidays, PCYC Fremantle came alive as we hosted our Djeren Cultural Connections event—welcoming Aboriginal children in care alongside their carers and family, creating a culturally safe space where connection to culture, community and family could be strengthened through shared experiences of play, creativity and celebration. Days like this don’t happen by chance. They’re made possible through the strength of the Imagined Futures partnership and the generosity of many collaborators coming together with a shared purpose.

Thank you to our local government and community partners for providing venues and supporting in-kind cultural activities, including:

• Stephen Michael Foundation (Culture Through Sport—always a highlight)
• Create Foundation (arts and crafts, plus a scavenger hunt)
• Port School and Meerilinga (sensory play and toys for younger children)
• Walyalup Aboriginal Cultural Centre (cultural games and sensory play)

The last three events have been funded through the Fremantle Ports Community Investment Program, supporting cultural activities, catering and photography. Our long-term supporter Neami National also funded cultural face painting at Djeren.

Special acknowledgement to photographer Alan McDonald, who has documented every event, capturing portraits, milestones, and the powerful moments of connection over time. Thank you also to Rueben Hayden-Nelson and his boys for sharing cultural dance with families on the day.

Behind the scenes, our planning committee (Department of Communities + Imagined Futures) coordinates partners, activities and logistics to create a safe, welcoming space for families to connect and celebrate culture.

Where Is the Door? Out in the Wild 🧡

One of the most rewarding parts of this project is seeing Where Is the Door? being used by real people in real places. Huge thanks to Rosie Hegarty and Michael Piu for sharing these photos, nothing beats watching community tools actually land with community.

What we hear over and over again is clear:
Finding the right help is confusing, exhausting, and time‑consuming.

People’s lives are already complex. Navigating a complicated system shouldn’t make things harder.

That’s exactly why we created these resources, to make the first step toward support clear, simple, and accessible.

Over time, this has grown into a whole ecosystem of support:
✨ Easy‑to‑understand resources
✨ Face‑to‑face community workshops
✨ A frontline worker community of practice
✨ Local data that highlights gaps and drives change

And it’s working. The project continues to grow and reach more people in more places.

Just this week, someone from regional WA reached out for one of our mental health system maps so they could replicate it locally, and of course, we shared it.

Because at Imagined Futures, we believe in no gatekeeping. If a community needs a tool, they should have it.

If you’d like to use these resources in your own community, get in touch. We’re always happy to share.
