🔥 IT’S BEEN A BUSY WEEK FOR OUR BRIGADE 🚒

Our volunteers have had a busy week, responding to multiple incidents across the local area.

Earlier this week, crews attended a vehicle fire at the New England Highway/Pikedale Road intersection, which subsequently spread into surrounding grass and developed into a significant grass fire.

Crews were also called to a vegetation fire on Warwick–Killarney Road at Canningvale, where a large fire front and significant smoke required the response of multiple crews.

With hot temperatures forecast for this weekend, conditions can quickly become challenging and fires can spread rapidly.

🌡️ Please take extra care:
• Avoid activities that could accidentally start a fire
• Check conditions before conducting any burning
• Ensure permitted burns are properly prepared and supervised
• Keep an eye on local fire warnings and conditions
• If you see a fire, call Triple Zero (000) immediately

Last Saturday, the Freestone & District Rural Fire Brigade responded to a bushfire at Goomburra, working alongside the Allora Rural Fire Brigade.

It was a great opportunity for both brigades to work together, putting our skills and teamwork into action to help bring the fire under control. 🚒🔥

As we head into fire season, now is the time to prepare your property, check your fire plans and stay informed.

A big thank you to everyone who attended and helped keep our community safe. 👏

🔥 Winter at Freestone and District 🔥

While the fire season may have slowed down, our brigade has certainly not! Over the past few weeks, our volunteers have been busy assisting with hazard reduction burns throughout the district, helping to keep our community safe and prepared for the months ahead.

We have also been making the most of the quieter months by continuing our training and developing our skills, ensuring we are ready to respond when our community needs us.

On Saturday night, some of our members enjoyed attending the Killarney Bonfire Night. It was wonderful to catch up with members of the community and support such a great local event.

A huge thank you goes to all of our volunteers who continue to dedicate their time, not only during fire season but all year round. Our brigade is proud to be part of such a supportive community.

The event aims to help our community explore ways to support their physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.

Area 20 Group Training

The 2026 training focused on one of the most important aspects of firefighting – safety.

Members participated in a range of hands-on and theory-based sessions designed to strengthen skills, improve communication, and ensure everyone goes home safely at the end of the day.

Topics covered included:
✅ Truck maintenance and vehicle checks
✅ Burnover awareness and survival
✅ Pumping operations
✅ Firecom procedures
✅ Peer support and wellbeing
✅ Ambulance and medical response information
✅ P3 mask fit testing
✅ Radio communications
✅ Incident command and communication

We were fortunate to have a number of agencies and experienced personnel involved throughout the day, including representatives from the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service and members of the New South Wales Rural Fire Service, who shared their knowledge and experience with participants.

A special thank you to the Stanthorpe Show Society for kindly making the grounds available for the training day, and to the wonderful men and women from the Stanthorpe Men’s Shed who kept everyone well fed throughout the event. Your support is greatly appreciated and helped make the day a success.

Training days like these reinforce the importance of preparation, teamwork, communication and continuous learning in keeping our members and communities safe.

🔥 Freestone Rural Fire Brigade – Maryvale Fire 🔥

Our dedicated volunteers from Freestone Rural Fire Brigade recently attended the Maryvale fire, working alongside other crews to help contain and control the situation across multiple days.

We’re incredibly proud of the effort, teamwork, and commitment shown by all involved. Incidents like these are a strong reminder of the importance of community, preparedness, and supporting one another when it matters most.
