Children can and do die in hot cars — and the risk is highest in summer.

Even on mild days the temperature inside a parked car can be 20-30 degrees hotter than the temperature outside. When it’s 30 degrees outside, a child could be suffering in up to 60-degree heat.

Australia day is a day where we can pay respect to, celebrate and reflect about the stories, histories and contributions of the Australians who lived, worked and fought for the values and freedoms we have today.

It is a day that will mean different things to each of us. We are all shaped by our own experiences, and we will all celebrate living in our dynamic, multicultural nation where everyone’s views, beliefs and contributions are valued, in own ways.

I’d like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank the extraordinary effort being made by volunteer firefighters across the state, and in particular those from our own Westernport brigades.

Again this morning, teams from our area have been deployed to support ongoing fire activity across regional Victoria. While we continue to assist where we can, I want to reassure everyone that we remain very mindful of our own local needs and are ensuring we are adequately resourced over the coming days.

To those who have been deployed, those currently deployed , and those who may be called upon in the days ahead, I sincerely acknowledge your commitment to the protection of communities across Victoria. Thank you for your continued support and dedication.

Good morning! I wanted to share an update with all of you regarding the deployment this morning. Kernot Tanker 2, along with our dedicated team members, are currently on their way to the Wonthaggi Fire Station. Once there, they will join other Bass Coast Group appliances and members to form Taskforce 0817.

The task force will then proceed to Dargo to assist in the ongoing firefighting efforts. As you may be aware, the fire in that area is still listed as not yet under control, and our combined efforts will be crucial in working towards containment.

Thank you all for your unwavering commitment and support. Let's keep our thoughts with our brave team members as they head out to tackle this challenging task.

At 0600 this morning, Balnarring Tanker 2 and four of our dedicated brigade members deployed to assist firefighting efforts in the Dargo region.

They will be away for the next four days. We wish them all the best and a safe return home.
