We need to talk about our kids. β€οΈ
Too many young lives are being lost to su***de, and as parents and as a community, we can not be afraid to have the difficult conversations.
We need to TALK to our kids.. really talk to them.
We need to know what is happening in their lives.
Who are they spending time with?
What is happening at school?
What are they seeing and experiencing online?
Are they being bullied, excluded, threatened or humiliated?
Are they struggling silently because they are afraid to tell us?
We need to listen when our children tell us that something or somewhere is hurting them.
And sometimes, we need to REMOVE them from a toxic environment without feeling guilty about it.
If anything is destroying your child's mental health, take action, their well-being matters more than anything in the world.
We also need to be present in their online lives. Know what they are watching. Know which platforms they are using. Know who they are communicating with. Teach them about dangerous content, cyberbullying and people who may not be who they claim to be.
This isn't about invading our children's lives. It's about staying connected enough to notice when something isn't right.
And we need to ask the uncomfortable questions.
Are you okay?
Are you being hurt or bullied?
Do you ever feel like you don't want to be here anymore?
Have you thought about hurting yourself?
Don't be frightened to ask.
And if your child tells you they are struggling, believe them. Don't dismiss it as drama, attention-seeking or "just being a teenager."
We may never fully understand what brings a child to the point where they believe dying is their only escape. Su***de is complex, and there isn't always one identifiable reason.
But our children need to know one thing with absolute certainty:
There is NOTHING they can tell us that will make us stop loving them.
No mistake.
No bullying.
No bad grade.
No embarrassing photo.
No friendship breakdown.
No situation online.
Nothing.
Please talk to your kids today. Not just when something goes wrong.
RIP dear boys. ππ»
