πŸ’™ Men's Health Week 15–21 June: It's Okay to Talk πŸ’™

This week is Men's Health Week, an opportunity to focus on the physical and mental wellbeing of men and boys. Men's Health Week encourages men to prioritise their health, seek support early, and have conversations about wellbeing.

Many men feel pressure to "push through" challenges alone. But asking for support isn't a sign of weakness, it's a sign of strength.

If you're struggling:
βœ” Talk to someone you trust
βœ” Check in with your GP
βœ” Connect with a mental health professional
βœ” Reach out to a support service

Mentis Assist has a range of services to support better mental health.
Call us today on 1300 636 847 or email [email protected]

And if you're not struggling, check in on a mate. A simple "How are you really going?" can mean more than you realise.

Let's continue breaking down stigma and creating communities where people feel safe to talk openly about mental health.

Mentis Assist are very grateful for the hard work and generosity of the Berwick Opportunity Shop Incorporated πŸ™πŸ’• Your support helps us to provide important mental health care for some of the most vulnerable people in the Casey community. Thank-you πŸ’•

Today Sharon and Pam visited Mentis Assist in Narre Warren to hand over a donation cheque. They were welcomed by Helen Dankowski and Zenobia Balsara.
This is a new organisation that we have decided to support. This organisation gives support and provides opportunities to people living with mental illness.

🌞 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding Technique 🌞

Feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck in your thoughts?

The 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding Technique is a simple way to bring your attention back to the present moment and calm your nervous system.

Take a slow breath and notice:

πŸ‘€ 5 things you can see
βœ‹ 4 things you can feel
πŸ‘‚ 3 things you can hear
πŸ‘ƒ 2 things you can smell
πŸ‘… 1 thing you can taste

This technique helps interrupt racing thoughts and reconnects you with what's happening right now.

You can use it:
βœ” During stressful moments at work
βœ” Before appointments or meetings
βœ” When feeling anxious in public places
βœ” Anytime you need a mental reset

Remember, it's okay to pause. Sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is gently bring ourselves back to the present moment.

πŸ’š Save this post so it's there when you need it.

🌿 Small Connections, Big Impact 🌿

Did you know that one of the strongest protective factors for our mental health is social connection?

Life can get busy, and when we're feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or low, it's often tempting to withdraw, particularly during the cold Winter months in Melbourne. Yet even small moments of connection can make a difference.

This week, challenge yourself to:
β˜• Have a coffee with a friend
πŸ“ž Call someone you've been meaning to catch up with
🚢 Take a walk with a neighbour or friend
😊 Smile and say hello to someone in your community

Connection doesn't have to be complicated. Sometimes the smallest conversations can have the biggest impact on our wellbeing.

At Mentis Assist, we see every day how meaningful relationships help people build resilience, hope, and recovery.

Who will you connect with today?

πŸ–€πŸ’›β€οΈ National Reconciliation Week (27 May – 3 June)

National Reconciliation Week is a time to reflect, learn, and take meaningful steps toward reconciliation. The theme for this year is ALL IN, calling for all Australians to wholeheartedly commit to reconciliation every day.

We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we live and work.

We recognise the ongoing impacts of intergenerational trauma and the importance of delivering culturally safe, inclusive mental health support.

Reconciliation is everyone’s responsibility.

🧠 World Schizophrenia Awareness Day – 24 May

At Mentis Assist, we work alongside people living with schizophrenia every day, providing clinical care, care coordination, and connection to the broader supports people need to live well in their communities.

This can include:
βœ” Ongoing mental health support and recovery-focused care
βœ” Coordinating access to services like housing, health care, and community programs
βœ” Supporting people to build connection, stability and independence
Schizophrenia is one of the most misunderstood mental health conditions and stigma can be just as challenging as the illness itself.

At Mentis Assist, we believe in person-centred, trauma-informed care, walking alongside people on their recovery journey, without judgement.

πŸ’› Everyone deserves understanding, respect, and the right support.

Call 1300 Mentis (1300 636 847) to find out about our programs and eligibility.

🌈 17 May is IDAHOBIT Day - the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia.

It’s a day to stand together against discrimination and to celebrate the strength, diversity and resilience of LGBTQIA+ communities.

At Mentis Assist, we recognise that inclusion and belonging are essential to mental health and wellbeing. Everyone deserves to feel safe, respected and valued for who they are.

Today, and every day, we commit to:
πŸ’› Creating safe and inclusive spaces
πŸ’› Listening without judgement
πŸ’› Standing up against discrimination
πŸ’› Supporting people to be their authentic selves

Because when people feel seen and accepted, communities thrive.
🌈 Be kind. Be respectful. Be an ally.

Today, on International Nurses Day, we recognise the incredible nurses who support people through some of life’s most vulnerable moments.
In mental health, nurses provide not only clinical care, but empathy, advocacy, and hope.
