Huon Valley Alphabet Mafia Inc Welcome to the Alphabet Mafia, your new favourite safe space. Alphabet Mafia is a q***r-lead group for LGBTIQA+ youth in southern Tasmania.

Mafia is run by Huon Valley Alphabet Mafia Inc and is completely volunteer funded. Huon Valley Alphabet Mafia Inc has been established to promote respect and tolerance for, and social inclusion of, young people who are LGBTQIA+ (le***an, gay, bisexual, transgender, q***r, intersex, asexual, and others) so that they can fully participate in all aspects of life in Australia without fear of discrimin

ation. We aim to foster community cohesion, advocate for equality, and promote the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of LGBTQIA+ Young People and their families. Through educational workshops, peer support programs, and activities designed to celebrate diversity, the Huon Valley Alphabet Mafia Inc seeks to nurture resilience and confidence in LGBTQIA+ youth while working to dismantle societal barriers they may face. Additionally, we strive to engage with local communities to raise awareness, foster inclusivity, and inspire positive change for future generations.

Pride Party plans are coming along nicely!! There are still a couple of tickets left, but registrations close on the 22nd so grab one while you still can. https://events.humanitix.com/alphabet-mafia-pride-party
Our Director, Sarah Annesley is part of the The Resilience Canopy's 'Resilient Rainbows' group which was awarded a Special Mention in the Ripple Makers Event. (Ripple Makers is our recognition and celebration of the people and groups involved in The Resilience Canopy program making ripples (or waves) in their communities towards a more resilient future.)

More furnishings and things taken into Mafia today. Thanks to my team of helpers (Jamie, Glow, Esther, Stella & Anna) for getting it all upstairs and built. More to come this week. Will take more photos when it's arrived.

As many of you know, Mafia runs from the Huon Valley PCYC (thank you a million times over). The room and the furniture we use isn't exactly "Q***r Group" affirming so I applied for funding from FRRR and we were APPROVED!!!!
What this means for Mafia is a complete room overhaul! Soft beanbags, blankets, cushions, rugs, lighting, charging stations for phones and ipads, noise cancelling headphones, sensory/fidget toys, and more. To celebrate we're throwing a Pride Party at the end of the month.
None of this would have been even remotely possible without the support of FRRR! Keep your eyes peeled for progress pics!

Happy Pride Month!
Mafia is in the early stages of planning a Pride Party for the end of the month! I still have a few things to lock in, but I'll be putting a call-out for volunteers shortly.
