Queensland Association of State School Principals

Queensland Association of State School Principals QASSP is a school leader professional association dedicated to improving educational outcomes for state school students in Queensland.

Our work impacts 325,000 students, their families and communities. QASSP is the voice of Queensland’s state primary schools. We approach our advocacy with an emphasis on building the relationship. On behalf of our 1300 members, the Association sits on over 50 committees and responds to all education related government policy. On the national stage, QASSP is an active member of the Australian Gover

nment Primary Principals Association and the Australian Primary Principals Association. The strength of the Association lies in the voluntary support members give to fellow members. Our network of 45 branches is assisted by a team working from our fully-owned office in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley. Since 1966, the work done and services offered have been in direct response to member need, overseen by a member-elected Management Committee and President. QASSP also provides professional learning opportunities for school educators – from classroom teachers and curriculum leaders to aspiring, new and experienced school leaders. Our programs include: Phonemic Awareness, Fierce Conversations, 7 Habits for Highly Effective People, and Designed InGenuity. Members can access international study tours, work shadowing and mentoring programs and research and publishing opportunities. The Association’s professional journal – The Queensland Principal– is published quarterly and is available for purchase by subscription.

COMING TOGETHER IN CAIRNS AND CAPE // 22 members of QASSP's Cairns and Cape Branch came together yesterday for their Term 2 meeting, tackling the hot topics impacting schools and communities across the region.

A highlight of the afternoon was a presentation from Head of Campus Justine Edward, on the North Queensland Youth Alcohol and Other Drugs Residential Service — sharing valuable insights into the support available for young people in our communities.

Thank you to all who attended, contributed to the discussion, and made it such a meaningful professional learning and networking opportunity.

THANKS FOR THE INVITE // President Pat Murphy attended this week’s meeting of QASSP’s Brisbane South Branch hosted by Algester State School. It was gratifying to see a strong mix of principals and middle leaders engaging in professional learning and networking together.

Algester State School proudly showcased their literacy program, with attendees gaining direct line of sight into classrooms where two exceptional teachers demonstrated an impressive array of teaching talents and strategies in action. Tingalpa State School also presented their innovative use of technology to support both staff and students in literacy teaching and learning.

Congratulations to Janine Leach, who was presented with a QASSP Service Award in recognition of her contribution to the branch and to Melissa Provost-Boyle on receiving her 10-year QASSP membership certificate.
