✂️ Chris from Sustainable Salons is super passionate about saving the environment through recycled hair, and it's a passion he credits to his late mum 🩵

"My mother passed away from leukaemia when she was only 32, but she loved fundraising.

"For me to be able to contribute to events like this and shave my head in the past is super meaningful. I just love being able to support the World's Greatest Shave."

Sustainable Salons has a network of 1,200+ salons across Australia that can help make your shave, cut or colour for the World’s Greatest Shave as sustainable as possible 💚

Donated ponytails are made into charitable wigs, and hair clippings are used in ‘hair booms’ to help clean up oil spills.

And they have innovative projects exploring how hair can be used as a future resource.

💙 “I survived leukaemia… and honestly, I understand YOLO now.”

Surviving blood cancer has transformed how Gabrielle looks at life – and the way she wants to experience it with her young son, Tyson.

After being diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukaemia (APML) in 2023, Gabrielle says she’s learned to focus less on the things she can’t control, make time for the people and things she loves, and enjoy the life happening right in front of her.

Because a cancer diagnosis changes more than your health. It changes your perspective on what really matters.

We’re so grateful to Gabrielle for sharing her story with us and showing what life beyond blood cancer treatment can look like.

"The second I made it about everyone else instead of myself, it made the battle so much clearer."

🩸 After presenting to the hospital with severe back pain, Xavier Saviane was diagnosed with lymphoma. Spinal surgery and 6 months of chemotherapy later, he was thankfully in remission.

His blood cancer journey led Xavier to get involved with World's Greatest Shave, becoming a Youth Rep and sharing his story with schools across the country.

🗣️ "Shaving my head with 20 of my best mates, my brother and my father, it's something I'll never forget.

"Before I did World's Greatest Shave, I couldn't find my voice. Ever since doing it, it's like I haven't stopped speaking...

"I've set the goal to get my voice and my story out to every school and organisation in the country."

"Every day I'm a brave girl, receiving treatment for leukaemia."

🥹 Wilston State School rallied around their friend and fellow student, Alia, who shaved her head ahead of her next treatment for blood cancer 🩸

"I see so many kids each week when I go to hospital, going through very tough things like me.

"I'll lose my hair soon, so I might as well do it for a good cause and with the encouragement from my friends and family.

"Let's raise awareness and funds together so that the treatments keep getting better and better."

Alia's school smashed their previous record, raising almost $50,000 to support Australians impacted by blood cancer - just like her 🩵

"Dad was diagnosed after doctors discovered a golf ball-sized tumour just 1mm from his brain."

🩸 Mel still remembers how much her dad's Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosis affected her family.

And it's the reason she decided to cut and donate her hair to Sustainable Salons ✂️

🗣️ "I’ve always had long hair. I always thought that if I decided to cut it again, I wanted to make sure it could help someone else.

"It was definitely emotional. My hair had been part of my identity for a long time, so it was a big change!

"But I’m really proud to have turned something so personal into a way of giving back, and it gave me the opportunity to raise funds to support other people affected by blood cancer."

Thankfully, after a year of chemotherapy, her dad went into remission and has been cancer-free for two decades now 💙
