The Forbes Riverside Community Garden is a community driven project, auspiced by Forbes Shire Council. The Garden is operated by a Management Committee which is responsible for the day to day operation of the Garden. Membership is open to all residents of the Forbes Local Government Area. The vision of the Garden is to be a convivial place for people of diverse ages and backgrounds to mix and form
friendships and social bonds which contribute to a sense of community, whilst learning and sharing gardening knowledge. The Garden will serve as a place where:
• To create and maintain a sustainable community garden on environmentally aware principles where the local community can grow healthy produce, working the soil and harvesting crops together;
• Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate, facilitating the development of an inclusive, caring and diverse community;
• Gardeners learn from each other and then share their skills with others;
• Well thought out organisational systems and procedures, including regular meetings, ensure the smooth running of the garden and clear lines of communication are carefully maintained; and
• The design is in keeping with the nature of the site and the surrounding natural environment, is accessible to all and incorporates a harmonious blend of shared and individual plots, native areas, fruit trees, vegetables, herbs and flowers.
