Look at that harvest whanau! Come along to our open session this weekend if you’re keen to see how we get our garden to this stage.

At the moment celery is our vegetable at the moment that just keeps on giving along with an assortment of very colourful leafy “greens”. This week we’ve also gotten some beetroots, radishes, broccolini, cabbage, spring onions, tomatoes and some herbs! Not too shabby 🥬🍄🤘

Another lovely open morning in the garden with a small but dedicated group of volunteers.

Together we weeded the garden beds, turned the compost, hilled up the potato bed, learned from Paul about the worm farm, and, most importantly, enjoyed each other’s company.

There was even time to get creative and make some art!

These mornings are about so much more than gardening, they’re about growing friendships, sharing knowledge, and building a stronger community, one morning at a time. We look forward to seeing you next time.

After enjoying a well deserved rest from harvesting, our community garden was ready to give again, and this morning’s harvest was a rewarding one.

Three crates of fresh, seasonal produce were delivered to our friends at Duke Street, where they will be shared through tomorrow’s food bank.

The stars of today’s harvest were crisp celery, an abundance of leafy greens and fragrant parsley. We also picked radishes, chillies, lemons, basil and aubergines, and were delighted to harvest our very first two blood oranges, a small but exciting milestone for the garden.

The day began wrapped in fog and cloud, but by this afternoon the sunshine had broken through, providing the perfect ending to a productive day in the garden.

Compost update 🪏🪏🪏

A new bombshell has entered the villa - the GALP now has a new compost team! We are getting organised to keep the garden’s compost bays productive, and to figure out ways to get the community more involved this year.

Wanna know more about composting? Come check out the set up at one of our upcoming open sessions, or reach out for a chat!

Last Saturday’s working bee was productive despite lower numbers. It was a lovely sunny morning. Volunteers moved compost, repotted seedlings, and tackled weeding, while visitors explored the garden. Thank you to everyone who came along, every helping hand helps our community garden thrive. 🌱🌿

A huge thank you to our wonderful team of olive pickers who harvested an impressive 37.5 kg of olives this morning.

The olives were then delivered to McNish Reserve in Yarraville, where they will be collected and processed into olive oil through the fantastic CERES Olives to Oil program.

A special shout out to 7 month old Gwen, our youngest volunteer, who joined us for the day and officially became part of the 2026 FCGLP Team Olive! 👏🏽🫒

ok lock in chat we got a big weekend ahead of us 👇👇👇

Up first is POTATO DAY on Saturday 30/05/26, from 9am til 12pm (ish). We’re finally ready to put some potatoes in the ground and are looking for assistance from anyone who’s interested in helping out. All ages and abilities welcome! Said assistance can also be in the form of standing around and saying things like “Good job!” and “Hot damn, you look incredible when you shovel compost”

Second on the sched is OLIVES TO OIL on Sunday 31/05/26. We’ll be harvesting olives from our trees at St John’s from 10am to 12pm, then transporting our harvest to the drop off point. Once again, all ages and abilities welcome. If you’re keen to come help out or just observe, we’d love to have you! We’re booked in for 40kg of olives and may or may not meet our lofty quota, so if you’ve got olives or live near some olives that are being neglected/need to be liberated (👀) feel free to bring along a pocketful or two.

So if your weekend plans are currently subpar, or if they’re great and you just have a lot of energy like a little freak, come help contribute to the amount of starch and/or oil in the world.

Ka kite ano 😘
