A huge thank you to our wonderful team of olive pickers who harvested an impressive 37.5 kg of olives this morning.

The olives were then delivered to McNish Reserve in Yarraville, where they will be collected and processed into olive oil through the fantastic CERES Olives to Oil program.

A special shout out to 7 month old Gwen, our youngest volunteer, who joined us for the day and officially became part of the 2026 FCGLP Team Olive! 👏🏽🫒

ok lock in chat we got a big weekend ahead of us 👇👇👇

Up first is POTATO DAY on Saturday 30/05/26, from 9am til 12pm (ish). We’re finally ready to put some potatoes in the ground and are looking for assistance from anyone who’s interested in helping out. All ages and abilities welcome! Said assistance can also be in the form of standing around and saying things like “Good job!” and “Hot damn, you look incredible when you shovel compost”

Second on the sched is OLIVES TO OIL on Sunday 31/05/26. We’ll be harvesting olives from our trees at St John’s from 10am to 12pm, then transporting our harvest to the drop off point. Once again, all ages and abilities welcome. If you’re keen to come help out or just observe, we’d love to have you! We’re booked in for 40kg of olives and may or may not meet our lofty quota, so if you’ve got olives or live near some olives that are being neglected/need to be liberated (👀) feel free to bring along a pocketful or two.

So if your weekend plans are currently subpar, or if they’re great and you just have a lot of energy like a little freak, come help contribute to the amount of starch and/or oil in the world.

Ka kite ano 😘

Autumn sunshine, full hearts and full crates 💚

On Tuesday morning, Helen, Heather and David completed a 3 crate harvest, delivered to the ever grateful Duke St Food Relief program.

The harvest included beans, basil, bok choy, chard, zucchinis, beetroot, kale and tomatoes. Fresh, seasonal and grown with care.

They also planted broccoli, a range of brassicas and more kale, setting the garden up for the cooler months ahead.

Heather is keeping a close eye on our pomegranate crop as it continues to develop.

A big thank you to everyone helping with watering during this dry spell. Your support makes such a difference.

Growing, sharing and caring together 🌱

Such a beautiful autumn morning in the still incredibly productive FCGLP garden 🍂

This morning we welcomed nine brand new faces to the Open Session. All eager to muck in and all keen to come back, which is just wonderful to see.

A big kudos to Sid for capturing great footage of this morning’s open session and working bee 🎥

In other news, last Tuesday Heather, Helen and David harvested three full crates for the Duke St Food Relief program, and they’ll be back out there again this Tuesday.

If you’d like to join the FCGLP team, please get in touch. The more volunteers, the merrier. There are plenty of ways to get involved beyond the open sessions, including watering, planting, harvesting, composting, pulling weeds and so much more 🌱

Garden Update

Last week
Heather, Helen and David harvested four crates of beautiful fresh veggies for the Duke St Community House Food Relief Program. It was a really productive session.

They also planted out seedlings from the greenhouse into garden beds and potted up around a dozen native raspberries from runners, which is exciting for future harvests.

The April watering roster is now ready. It would be wonderful to see a few more names added, so please jump in and join our lovely group of garden waterers 💦 This is a great way to be involved throughout the week. Please get in touch if you would like to join the water team.

Yesterday
A smaller harvest as we move into the cooler months, with some plants finishing up for the season. Helen and Heather still managed to put together a couple of crates filled with leafy greens, tomatoes, basil, cucumbers and chillies and capsicums.

Things to come
The garden never really stops. There are plenty of signs of what is on the way next, as you can see in the photos 🌱

Check out our Autumn open days and working bees. There are so many ways to get involved throughout the week, we would love you to come and be part of our wonderful community.

We hope everyone enjoyed a lovely Easter and some time to rest and recharge 🐣
