Plinth Projects is an artist-run public art program, engaging the empty plinth at the centre of Melbourne's Edinburgh Gardens in the exhibition of temporary public works. Plinth Projects provides an artist-run alternative to traditional large-scale public art commissions. We curate an ongoing program of short-term exhibitions that are temporary, provocative, and engaging for both art-going audienc

es and the picnicking public. We are particularly interested in commissioning works by artists who have not previously worked outdoors or at such a large scale. Our program includes monthly exhibitions during Edinburgh Gardens' more habitable months, and an evolving five-month-long exhibition over the winter period. Our Opening Picnics, held on the first Sunday afternoon of the month, are free events to which everyone is invited.
