🏆 We're thrilled to share that we have been awarded a Personal PA System through the Bendigo Bank Community Bank Toora and Foster Grants Program — and we couldn't be more grateful!

🎤 At Prom Coast Ecolink, our heart is in connecting people to nature - and so much of what we do happens outdoors. Whether it's a guided walk, a community planting day, or a nature education event, we want every voice to be heard and every participant to feel included. This Personal PA System means we can now deliver our outdoor community events with clarity and confidence, making them more accessible and enjoyable for everyone who joins us.

A heartfelt thank you to Bendigo Bank Community Bank Toora and Foster for investing in our community and helping us bring people closer to the natural world we all share. 🌿

The Hoddle Range in Fish Creek is the halfway point between the rainforests of the Strzelecki’s and the coastlines of Cape Liptrap and the Prom.

Fostering the connection of plant and animal communities across this particular landscape is what drives Prom Coast Ecolink, since it was recognised as a corridor for the Superb Lyrebird decades ago. The vision: to ultimately link the Strzelecki Ranges, the Hoddle Ranges, and Wilsons Prom.

From lyrebirds to wallabies, birdlife and fungi, this stretch of South Gippsland punches well above its weight.
With just 22% of South Gippsland’s native vegetation remaining and 10% of all native species now threatened , the work of connecting what’s left has never been more urgent — yet very possible.

🪵 🐖 A pig farm and sawmill doesn't sound like a wildlife sanctuary. But Amber Creek Farm and Sawmill in Fish Creek is home to 80+ bird species, pygmy perch, burrowing crayfish, feather-tailed gliders, and rakali.

Owners Dan and Amelia Bright call it "hogs and logs," but two decades of careful stewardship tell a much bigger story. We recently brought 40 community members, farmers and nature lovers out to see it firsthand.

40% of the property is remnant bush, actively protected and connected by corridors of revegetation that keep wildlife moving across the landscape. As Dan puts it: "A productive farm needs them to intermingle." It's not a compromise. It's a philosophy, and it's working.

Our Vice President Shelley Banders summed it up: "The 'Eco' in Prom Coast Ecolink stands for both ecology and economy. We don't have one without the other."

Lunch around the campfire afterwards, made from produce grown on the property, was the perfect way to end the tour. Good food, good land, good people. 🔥

This is what we work toward across the Prom Coast region, and there are more events like this coming. Follow us or visit promcoastecolink.org to stay in the loop.

🌿 Join us Sunday 26 April for something a little special - Amber Creek Farm and Sawmill - Tour + Lunch

Amber Creek Farm is a remarkable off-grid property in Fish Creek that brings together sustainable saw milling, agroforestry, and working farmland in a way that shows agriculture and ecosystems don't have to be in conflict, but can be genuinely productive partners.

Local farmers Dan and Amelia Bright will take us on a behind-the-scenes tour of their property, sharing the story of how they've built something truly innovative in the heart of South Gippsland.
And to top it all off, your ticket includes a light lunch.

What a morning on the Hoddle Range!

On Sunday 15 March we officially launched the Hoddle Mountain Trail Walking Guide at Fish Creek.

We began with a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony by Kurnai Elder Aunty Cheryl, acknowledging the Bratowoloong clan as traditional custodians of the Hoddle Range.

Our President Anda Banikos spoke for all of us: "We have much to learn. Thank you for helping us to connect."

We then unveiled a granite marker stone donated by the family of our founding member Gary Wallis, who championed this trail for years. That stone was the Wallis family's outdoor table for decades. Now it stands at the start of the trail as a lasting symbol of shared community purpose.

The trail has been more than twenty years in the making. Guided walks on the day were led by long-term volunteers including Tim Farrell, who has supported the trail for over twenty years.

Thank you to Esso Australia for making the event and guidebook possible, and to Councillor Scott Rae and the South Gippsland Landcare Network for joining us.

The Hoddle Mountain Trail Walking Guide is available now at www.promcoastecolink.org/shop Keep an eye out for a community planting day on the trail later this year. 🌿🚶🏽‍♀️‍➡️🚶🏾‍➡️

Agricultural shows are a natural place for conversations about the land.

At this year’s Foster & District Agricultural Show, Prom Coast Ecolink was proud to be part of the day alongside Strzelecki Koala Action Group and Watch for Wildlife, and near our friends at South Gippsland Landcare Network and Corner Inlet Landcare Group .

Farming and conservation share the same foundations. Healthy soils, clean water, and landscapes that function well ecologically. The agricultural sector plays a vital role in the long term health of our region, so it was a privilege to be part of such an important community event.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to talk about the Prom Coast, the Strzelecki Ranges, our guidebooks, and the wildlife that calls this landscape home. Kids also enjoyed our hands on resources, including s**t identification charts and fun facts about the legendary Strzelecki koala 🐨.

🔎 Every observation helps tell the story of this landscape and why it’s worth protecting.

We’re lucky to have some brilliant photographers in our network who are out in the field capturing the ecological wealth of our focus area.

We work across a 30 km stretch, from the rainforests of the Strzelecki Ranges to the Prom Coast, and we continue to look for ways to connect, enhance, and protect habitat throughout this area.

Thank you to our photographers and citizen scientists for building a powerful picture of life across the Prom Coast.

You can also find us on iNaturalist under Prom Coast Ecolink. There are now close to 16,000 observations in our Prom Coast Ecolink project 🤯

We love seeing what’s out there, so please tag us or send your work our way!

Miss the chance to come to our Prom Granites Geology Walks? Never mind - you can take yourself on a guided tour at any time!

Head to South Gippsland Conservation Society to grab a copy of the newly printed Wilsons Promontory Geological Guide by Jo Whelan and the late Gary Wallis, who was a founding member of Prom Coast Ecolink.

Copies also available at The HandMakers Store in Fish Creek and Atticus Bookshop & Gallery in Foster.

***NEW BOOK***
Wilsons Promontory - Geological Guide, Gary Wallis and Jo Whelan.
Time to Reflect: As you visit these sites, take time to reflect on the incredible geological events that have shaped this promontory over millions of years of Earth's history.
By exploring these geological wonders, we gain insight into past climates changes, extinction events and the dynamic nature of our planet.
As we navigate through a significant shift in climate, let us appreciate the importance of understanding and preserving our natural world.

Another chance to join our Prom Granites Geology Beach Walk! 🪨🔎

Join us 9:30 am Friday 23 January for our final walk as part of Coastcare Victoria Summer by the Sea 2026 program.

After our cancellation earlier in the week, we are excited to offer another chance for you to join this unique FREE event, delivered alongside Friends of the Prom and the Fish Creek Landcare Group.

We have engaged geologist and palaeontologist Mike Cleeland to lead a community walk from the Tidal River campground.

The walk will follow the geological features described in local geologist Gary Wallis’ & Jo Whelan’s booklet Wilsons Promontory – Geology Guide.

A copy of the guidebook is included in your booking to refer to as we take an easy walk along Tidal River and Norman Beach at low tide. Mike Cleeland will bring its contents to life with his expertise in the field, discussing the geological features along the way.

Fingers crossed for a better forecast 🌞

See you there!

Prom Granites Geology Beach Walk - one down, one to go! 🪨

What a fantastic morning yesterday at our Coastcare Victoria Summer by the Sea event at Tidal River, Wilsons Promontory National Park.

A huge thank you to Jo Whelan, co-author of the guide booklet provided on the day, who generously stepped in to lead the walk at very short notice. Jo, you rock! (See what we did there?)

We’re looking forward to doing it all again next week!

The Geology Walks have been incredibly popular, so if you missed out on a ticket, don’t worry - we’ll be sure to run more in the future.

There’s still plenty to enjoy with Coastcare’s Summer by the Sea, so be sure to check out what’s still to come in the 2026 program.
