Project Honour

The Fingal Valley History Room are embarking on a new project, and there’s no better time of the year to share with our followers.

We will be collating the names and service records of the 86 men, who fought for King and Country, listed on the WWI Honour Board that was held in St Peter’s Anglican Church in Fingal. We hope to publish a book late 2026/early 2027. We were given the Honour Board in 2019, prior to the sale of the church.

The Poppy board, in these photos, will remain in the History Room. We have added the names of the 86 men to the Poppy leaves.

We also welcome our community to add their family members who courageously served and fought (in any service or war). If you are unable to do this in person we can certainly add these names for you. Please email: [email protected]

The first issue for 2026 of THRA's journal will be available for members to pick up at our April meeting on 14 April. In this issue, Brendan Bowes hunts down the introduction of lyre birds to Tasmania, Alison Alexander examines the introduction of Aboriginal place names in Tasmania, Robert J King investigates Henri Peyroux de la Coudreniere's plans for a VDL colony, Samuel Diprose Adams, Darren Watton and John Dent cross the South Esk/Plitatumila at Perth, Bob Brown wonders what happened to the Tasmanian nightingale, Amy Sherwin, and Tony Marshall discovers the origins of choral singing in Hobart Town. There are also book reviews and reports from the President and Treasurer.

Jorrnals not collected on Tuesday will be posted to members later in the week.
