Every photo ID helps to develop targeted conservation strategies. Patterns and algorithms inform actions such as protecting nesting sites, or reducing threats like pollution and habitat destruction.
Thank you (photographer) and (pictured) - two of the best turtle spotters we know!

Repost: .groovin ~ I've completed my first week of internship and I have taken so many photos of turtles! 😍

It has been an amazing experience so far with Scubabo and we have recently partnered with 🐒

Their turtle ID platform plays a crucial role in saving turtles by enabling them to identify different species of turtles, record their sightings and track individuals.

Repost .

This is Albert, he's an old friend from Coral Bay and one of a handful of turtles I feel lucky to know. But there's a whole lot of turtles we don't know, and a surprisingly huge amount of information missing on their movements and lives. Which is even more important as their world changes.

So this is a shout out to anyone who has ever met a turtle, with their camera in hand - there's a new awesome citizen science project that needs your turtle photos!

Sea Turtle ID

They can be from any time or place (old photos are fine) - up just need the left hand side of the turtle's face, and a location. Right now you submit it online, but soon there will be an app to make it even easier.

Share your photos, follow your turtle friends and help us learn more!!

Australian waters boast some of the planets most biodiverse oceans. These vast waters are the ONLY place in the world in which it is possible to sight all 7 species of sea turtle. If you have photo documentation of a sea turtle featuring the LEFT facial side profile, use the link in bio to join the movement today. Together, for turtles, today, tomorrow and into the future.

Historic data is welcome... If you have any photos in your collection that feature the LEFT facial side profile of a turtle consider uploading them to the TurtleID platform using the link in bio. The date and exact location are important too - so take yourself back to the time and place of those photos. Your input provides valuable information that informs actions for the preservation and protection of sea turtle populations. πŸ™πŸ½πŸ’β€οΈπŸͺΈ.

LEFT is best! When snapping photos for submission to the Turtle ID platform, remember to profile the turtles LEFT facial side profile. We thank all the volunteers who have submitted images to the TurtleID platform so far. Every photo makes an impact on the broader understanding of marine turtle populations and distribution and informs actions to preserve and protect sea turtles.

Join us on Tetepare Island in the Western Province of the Solomon Islands. Here, our TurtleID volunteers were honoured to connect with the Rangers of the Tetepare Descendants Association (TDA) for the purposes of sea turtle conservation. The TDA has been formed by local Traditional Owners who have shown unwavering commitment to the protection and conservation of some of Tetepare, one of the last wild islands that remain in this part of the South Pacific Region.

A very special thank you to Mary Bea for her warmth and enthusiasm and lifetime commitment to preservation of Tetepare. We look forward to meeting again soon.

We welcome the TDA Rangers of Tetapare Island to the Turtle ID program. It has been such an honour to work with these traditional custodians who show an unwavering commitment to the conservation of some of the last, truly wild spaces in this part of the world. The Traditional Descendants Association (TDA) Rangers will use the Turtle ID methodology in conjunction with the current turtle tagging program and utilise Turtle ID resources to create community awareness on the rapid decline of marine turtle populations in the Western Province, Solomon Islands.
