In October 2026, the Australian Government is launching AusAlert, a new national warning system that uses the latest technology to send emergency messages to compatible mobile devices.

AusAlert gives the Australian Government and state and territory emergency services organisations the ability to send national or local alerts about disasters.

Itโ€™s just one of the many ways the Australian Government and state and territory emergency services organisations are helping to keep Australians safer.

Ever heard of an OBD port lock?
This tiny gadget could make a big difference when it comes to protecting your car.

An OBD (on-board diagnostic) port lock helps prevent unauthorised access to your vehicleโ€™s OBD port - the same port offenders are now targeting to mimic keys and steal cars.

In recent weeks, Operation Trinity arrested three youth offenders who had stolen a Toyota parked at a gym. When police caught up with the trio, they threw a key reprogramming device from the car window.

This type of offending is on the rise with 1 in 5 cars being stolen using this method. A car driven through Northland Shopping Centre was allegedly stolen using this technology.

While an OBD is a simple way to block access and keep your car safe, there a few more ways to protect your vehicle:
๐Ÿ” Always lock your vehicle, even at home.
๐Ÿ” Park off-street where possible.
๐Ÿ” Remove garage remotes and spare keys from the vehicle.
๐Ÿ” Consider extra anti-theft devices (there are alternatives to OBDs).
๐Ÿ” Keep valuables out of sight - or better yet, out of the car entirely.

If your car is stolen, donโ€™t confront the offender - your safety comes first.

Report it to police on 131 444 or online at: police.vic.gov.au/police-assistance-line

If itโ€™s happening now, always call Triple Zero (000).
