As a direct result of YOUR feedback, Knox Council unanimously approved strengthening the local laws on illegal removal of significant trees & vegetation on private land! 👏

The summary of community engagement highlights: "Tree and vegetation protection: the strongest issue was opposition to proposed reductions in penalties for illegal removal or damage."

Knox provided consistent feedback during both phases of consultation which reinforces:
1️⃣ Residents want trees & vegetation protected.
2️⃣ Residents expect council to have the resources to support this local law, and use it.

We need to thank the council staff that reviewed all of our feedback (there was a lot to read!) and proposing appropriate updates, and to Councillors for listing and representing our community.

This is a great first step and there’s more to be done to ensure the law is actually utilised.

If you suspect illegal clearing of significant trees or vegetation on private or public land please report it to Knox Council.

In a win for native bushland, the Land and Environment Court convicted a Sydney contractor who pleaded guilty to illegally clearing 280+ trees on council-owned foreshore bushland.

While Melbourne has had some welcome rain, it's important to remember that a long, hot summer is just around the corner.

Being water smart year-round helps ensure we have enough water when demand is highest.

Melbourne storages are currently at 67%, down from 72% at the same time last year, showing the impact of continued low rainfall.

💡 What you can do to help save water:
🚿 Keep showers to 4 minutes.
🌿 Water gardens early morning or evening (if it's still required, with all the rain we've had!).
🚰 Fix leaks promptly.
🍽️ Run full loads in dishwashers and washing machines.
🚗 Use a bucket instead of a hose to wash your car.
