KES Knox Environment Society

KES Knox Environment Society The Knox Environment Society (KES)
Conservation - Sustainability - Community In 2009 the nursery moved to Wally Tew Reserve behind the library on Burwood Hwy.

The KES was founded in June 1982 by a small group of people interested in their local environment and community. Over the years the group has flourished into a vibrant and passionate volunteer organization with over 100 members. In 1985, achieve their objectives; the Society established what is believed to be the first indigenous nursery in Australia. This indigenous plant nursery was originally l

ocated in the Ferntree Gully Secondary College grounds. Most of the money the Society earns through plant sales goes back into the community for environmental projects, both locally and globally, such as the Sword-grass Brown Butterfly project, local wildlife carers, lobbying for better public transport and donations to other groups striving for similar objectives. KES has also played an integral role with the Knox City Council in the installation of a Conservation Officer and development of conservation strategies, Sustainable City Plan and has been involved in the establishment of the Environment Advisory Committee and Public Transport Consulting Committee. We have a number of members on these committees lifting the profile and giving a balanced approach to various issues relating to Knox's environment. KES continues to work proactively with Knox City Council. All plants grown and sold by the Knox Environment Society are of local provenance. All propagation material is collected under permit number 1/70/99/14 and under strict guidelines to protect and preserve the genetic integrity of our indigenous flora. KES Objectives
1. To actively promote sustainability within Knox and the wider community;
2. To engage in projects and activities that monitor, protect and enhance the environment;
3. To work with stakeholders including government, the community and business to advance environmental and sustainability policies, programs and practices. Please visit our nursery:
1010 Burwood Hwy, Ferntree Gully
Open hours:

“You have it within you power to make a difference, don’t give up, there is a future for you. Do your best while you are still on this beautiful planet earth which I look down apon now. God bless you all.”

Dr. Jane Goodall’s final message to the world: “I want to make sure that you all understand that each and every one of you has a role to play. You may not kn...
