Held on the 2nd Saturday of the month at Federal Hall, Federal Films shows some of the best films of all time, from great classics to the unusual, the controversial and some sentimental favourites. If you have seen this month’s film already, it’s worth seeing again and if you haven’t, it’s bound to be a gem! Come along and be part of this great community night. We are into our 11th year and still

going strong. The nights are also about more than film…we are bringing our diverse community together to support the local Hall and connect with each other in a regular social event. How better to share this time than with food? There is dinner available prior to the film – it’s great fun joining friends, old & new, at the trestle tables on the veranda and having a catch up before the film. There is always good food on offer at affordable prices: $10-12 for dinner, followed by delicious cakes, tea & coffee for $3-5. The food is all homemade and cooked by a local community group who use the event as a fund raiser. These community groups include: Eureka, Coorabell, Goonengerry & Upper Coopers Creek schools; Federal & Rosebank pre-schools; Goonengerry Landcare; Federal Park & Federal Hall committees. One of our proudest outcomes is that most of the money circulated on the evenings stays in our community and has a multiplier effect as it goes around.

Sydney Film Festival award winning documentary Floodland captures the 2022 Lismore floods through the eyes of the residents who lived through them.

It moves beyond the news cycle to highlight the First Nations healing practices and community-led solutions that are so vital for Australia’s future.

Join us on Wednesday 5 August for a special event screening and panel discussion at Stone&Wood Brewery with local community organisations who will discuss disaster response and community resilience in the Northern Rivers.

This is a story about the strength found in recovery, the ability for communities to pull together in the face of disaster, and the urgent conversations being prompted by the reality of our changing climate.

We are pleased that $2 from every ticket sold will be donated to Resilient Lismore, a community-based charity works to support community-based disaster preparedness, recovery and and resilience in Lismore.

Federal Film Society Presents: Is This Thing On?
Will Arnett gets divorced. Gets depressed. Does stand-up comedy as therapy – sounds like one of our committee meetings. Teamed with the always-excellent Laura Dern, Bradley Cooper directs and acts in this bittersweet, prickly drama/romcom about how to rebuild our self-worth on the crumbling foundations of a life shared. This is a touching, tender and gently funny film, and like all good comedy routines, grounded in reality.
Bring your loved ones. Bring your ex! But most of all, bring yourself to this special community event with heartwarming curries & delicious cakes by Federal Community Centre, mulled w**e and a full bar. And if you are an aspiring standup with a 5 minute set or have just a single indisputably funny joke under 30 seconds, we may even lend you a microphone!
Don’t miss out. Could be Federal’s very own ‘I’ve got talent’ or perhaps more appropriately, ‘The EX factor’. See you there!
