𝗡𝗴𝗮𝘆𝗼𝗺𝗶 is a Javanese word meaning to shelter, nurture and protect. These workshops invite us to consider shelter not only as a physical place, but as something we create together through care, presence, reciprocity and connection.

Together, we will work with everyday materials to create handmade vessels and water-based objects, drawing inspiration from shelter, care, animism and the living presence held within the material world.

The objects created through these gatherings will continue their journey into 𝗡𝗴𝗮𝘆𝗼𝗺𝗶 / 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿, a larger processional performance ritual taking place on Sunday 1 November. Carried and installed as part of the procession, the vessels will become part of a shared ceremonial journey of welcome, care and transformation.

🎨 On the 19th of August 2026, 𝗛𝗢𝗟𝗗𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗦𝗣𝗔𝗖𝗘 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 artist Shiva Dadvar held her Women's Art Therapy workshop. Through a guided process entangling meditation, sound healing, scribble drawing, watercolour painting, and sharing, Shiva led participants in exploring their connections to land and water. Through this, participants explored grief, migration, motherhood, and hope.

The CuriousWorks team recently expanded with William Uy Vu Le joining us as our 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻 as well as Fei Gao, Tala Issaoui, Liliana Occhiuto, Esky Escandor, and Shyamla Eswaran coming in as our 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 - 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟳 𝗰𝗼𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁. What a crew! 🙌🎊

So naturally, it was time for us to get some new team photos and headshots! Shoutout to local talented photographer Dylan Mangunay for capturing this for us. It was a fun day as we shot around the local Fairfield area, and braved the winds together (which activated our inner supermodels 😆).

✨ On the 12th of August 2026, 𝗛𝗢𝗟𝗗𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗦𝗣𝗔𝗖𝗘 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 artist Kylie Colemane led a group of 22 participants in her 'Adorning Country' Paperbark workshop. Kylie talked about the importance of 'Gurrundurrung' aka Paperbark in Darug cultural practice. Paperbark grows on Darug country and has strong linkages to the health of freshwater and saltwater.

Kylie then showed the participants how to make jewellery using Paperbark, entangling threads, textiles and feathers with it.

How do you build a more relevant, equitable, sustainable and future-focused arts culture? It pairs an artist residency program with an arts worker development program, embedding all the creatives in the company's operations to benefit the artists, arts workers, and the organisation symbiotically; and in turn to nurture sector development and foster sustainability for the community arts and cultural development sector.

Have you been feeling blah, overworked, and stuck in a creative rut?
Keen to build new skills, confidence, and friendships?
Well, folks, gather around because we have a program just for YOU!

✨ 𝗘𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿: 𝗢𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆. An arts program from Milk Crate Theatre and CuriousWorks.✨

Co-facilitated by Bedelia Lowrenčev, Miranda Aguilar & William Uy Vu Le, this 6-week creative program is an all-abilities, no-experience necessary course that will unearth your artistic impulses. 𝗢𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 is a free program, open to everyone including people who identify as neurodiverse or disabled or d/Deaf.

During these workshops, you’ll spend time with professional artists and learn all their tips and tricks. Whether you want to write, dance, act or just get in the room and start making something, we’ve got you covered!

From comic book heroes to grand odysseys to family journeys, we are constantly surrounded by stories that inspire, challenge, and push us. This program is about recognising, championing, and unleashing your inner storyteller. All ideas weird and wonderful are welcome!

✨ Over the past few weeks, 𝗛𝗢𝗟𝗗𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗦𝗣𝗔𝗖𝗘 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 artist Nicole Barakat has been leading a group of women from refugee backgrounds including from Afghanistan & Iran in her textile workshop series. Held at SSI’s Community Refugee Welcome Centre, the women have been painting by the water, listening deeply and respectfully to messages from unceded Wangal land. They then shared stories about land and water, and used their paintings to inspire their textile art. The group also made some beautiful beaded, appliqué and embroidered artworks.
