We love our seabirds. 🤍 H5 Avian Updates ✨
From tiny terns to majestic ospreys, frigate birds and everything in between, these incredible animals spend their lives navigating storms, crossing vast oceans and surviving in one of the harshest environments on Earth.
Unfortunately, many of them don’t make it through unscathed.
Every year we respond to birds suffering from dehydration, exhaustion, fishing line entanglements, hooks, plastic pollution, storms, disease and habitat pressures. Some need only a helping hand. Others require weeks of rehabilitation before they can return to the wild.
With recent detections of H5 Avian Influenza in Australia, we are also implementing additional biosecurity precautions to help protect both wildlife and our carers. While many of the symptoms associated with bird flu are also common in the seabirds we regularly admit into care, we believe it is important to remain informed, vigilant and prepared.
Most importantly, we don’t want fear to stop people from helping wildlife.
