For this week’s Wildlife Wednesday, we want to bring attention to the powerful work of GeoChange Ambassadors: and .
Their latest work helps document the fragile sponge gardens around Exmouth Gulf and Ningaloo - ecosystems most people will never see, but every ocean lover should care about.
These aren’t just “sponges.”
They are ancient living filtration systems. Habitat builders. Nurseries. Quiet underwater infrastructure that supports marine life, water quality, biodiversity and endangered species like sawfish and dugongs.
When activities like trawling disturb these systems, the damage doesn’t stay hidden on the seafloor. It ripples through the entire ocean ecosystem.
This is why storytelling matters.
Because before people protect something, they need to understand it exists.
