A big thank you to Roxy and Millie for joining us at the Evans Head Parkinson’s Support Group meeting! 💙

Their inspiring presentation highlighted the importance of staying active and keeping our bodies moving. Through a series of simple exercises, they showed how movement can improve strength, balance, wellbeing, and confidence, while helping to reduce the risk of falls, support better mobility, improve mental health, and enhance overall quality of life. 🚶‍♀️✨

If you're looking for a gentle and supportive way to stay active, Millie will be starting a seated exercise class from 23 June at the Rec Hall, running from 10:15am to 11:00am. 🪑💪

The class focuses on balance, strength, movement, and wellbeing, and is suitable for a range of abilities, with support available for individual needs.

For more information, contact:📞 Millie – 0432 074 281📞 – 0448 649 959

Or send us a message via our page. 💬

Together, we can build a healthier, stronger, and more connected community. 🤝❤️

📢 We'd love to see you there! If you know someone who may benefit from this class, please share this post and help spread the word. 😊

This morning we had the opportunity to present certificates to some very special people acknowledging the part they played in our Parkinson’s awareness events. We visited the Evans Head Marine rescue. Tony presented them with a Parkinson’s New South Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 certificate in appreciation of them accompanying our walkers from Vespas On Oak Street to the surf club along the riverbank. Not only did we feel much safer having them with us, dressed in their high profile uniforms, they certainly raised awareness of our event and, in this community, awareness of our disease. This was a mighty contribution to April, Parkinson’s awareness month, by this group of dedicated volunteers and we are very grateful. (Marine Rescue Evans Head)

We also visited Vespas on Oak and presented them with a Parkinson’s New South Wales certificate for their generous donation of a percentage of sales on the pancakes for Parkinson’s morning.

It is certainly heartening to have members of the local community participate so graciously in such events.

● Address: Currajong St Evans Head.
● GUEST SPEAKERS, Roxy Novak, presenter of the “Stepping On” program, along with Millie , a physio , will talk about a modified program that they feel would be very beneficial for people living with Parkinson’s . They would like to gauge interest in a program like this to be offered in Evans Head on a weekly basis. We look forward to welcoming them .

Hello everyoneOur new library is growing! We now have 24 beautiful books to begin our Evans Head Parkinson's Support Group Library with heartfelt thanks to Evans Head Rotary ! Sadly the second hand trolley/shelving (ON WHEELS) is no longer available so if anyone has any ideas for this please? We also need to get a stamp made up for the books . Anyone know where we can get one done please? I can't wait to start lending them once they are stamped.

What you eat, and when you eat it, can make a real difference to everyday wellbeing when living with Parkinson’s.

Changes to appetite, digestion, energy levels and swallowing are common. So are things like constipation, weight changes and the way food can interact with medication. All of this can make eating feel harder than it used to be.

There’s no single “Parkinson’s diet” that works for everyone. But research continues to show that a Mediterranean style eating pattern, built around whole foods, vegetables, legumes, whole grains and healthy fats, supports overall health and may help some symptoms for some people.

For many people, small changes can help:
• supporting gut health with enough fibre and fluids
• being mindful of protein and levodopa timing if medication feels unpredictable
• watching for unintentional weight changes
• checking key nutrients like vitamin D and B vitamins

Awareness matters.

Understanding everyday challenges like food, digestion and medication timing can make a real difference.
