A Busy August for Marine Rescue Evans Head!

EH31 began the month with a trip to Yamba for repairs and its 650-hour engine service.

Once back on the water, the crew assisted a vessel with engine trouble east of Snapper Rock, following it safely across the Evans Head Bar.

Our volunteers also responded to a vessel taking on water near North Ground and successfully towed it back to the pontoon.

Most recently, EH31 assisted a 36-foot catamaran struggling against strong northerly winds, escorting it safely across the Ballina Bar.

While our crews have been busy on the water, our radio operators have provided vital support from shore. Our fundraising team has also been working hard to raise the funds needed to keep our unit operational and ready to respond.

Rescues, radio calls, training, fundraising and maintenance—it has certainly been all hands on deck this August!

A BUSY COUPLE OF DAYS FOR MARINE RESCUE EVANS HEAD

On Tuesday and Wednesday, Marine Rescue Evans Head coordinated the RAAF live-fire security warning broadcasts from the MREH Radio Base. These broadcasts informed local boaters about the offshore exclusion zone, helping them remain safe and clear of RAAF training activities.

On Wednesday afternoon, Evans 31 was also tasked to assist a disabled vessel east of Snapper Rock following an engine issue.

Bill (Skipper), Lance, Greg and Dan crewed Evans 31 and located the vessel, which had managed to restart its engine and was heading back to Evans Head. Our crew maintained contact and followed the vessel until it was safely across the Evans Head Bar and back in the river.

Another excellent outcome from our Evans 31 crew and radio operator.

From coordinating important safety broadcasts to assisting boaters on the water, these are just some of the ways our volunteers support and protect the local community.

Great team effort at Saturday training, with everyone learning with and from each other.

From docking at the emergency pontoon to anchoring near Chinamans Beach, every exercise helped build skills and confidence.

July Recap - Marine Rescue Evans Head 💙

July was another busy month for our incredible volunteers!

Our fundraising team worked tirelessly throughout the Evans Head Fishing Classic, one of the unit’s biggest fundraising events of the year. Every dollar raised helps keep our boat, equipment and volunteers rescue ready.

Bill and Wayne also joined NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service in Ballina for a whale disentanglement simulation, building valuable skills and strengthening partnerships to help protect our marine wildlife.

Several members successfully updated their First Aid and Advanced Resuscitation qualifications, ensuring they remain prepared to respond when it matters most.

As always, our dedicated volunteers continued their commitment to regular Wednesday and Saturday training, giving up their own time to sharpen their skills and maintain the high standards our community relies on.

A huge thank you to every volunteer who gave their time this month. Your dedication, teamwork and commitment make a real difference.
