Traditional rigid canals act as fast-track highways for pollution, stripping away natural habitats and causing massive, destructive surges downstream. True water management works with nature, not against it. By engineering Naturalized Canal Wet-fringe Habitats, we can transform sterile drainage ditches back into living ecosystems. By carving out shallow shelves along the edges and planting dense wetland grasses, these biological fringes act like the brakes and the kidneys of the waterway. The thick vegetation physically slows down floodwaters to prevent downstream damage, while the massive root networks below the surface actively filter out chemical pollutants and fertilizers.
